I am looking for a SSR w/o the customized cargo system. All but 1 SSR that I have seen has the customized carpet version. Question-can you convert from the customized cargo back to the plastic liner version? If so how much/how difficult?

took mine out-

;) its just a regular truck bed underneath, the tonnau pops all the way up without the extra weight, mine didn't quite have a full coat of paint underneath the carpet but that wouldn't matter if you had it lined.
or mabie you could by the plastic liner from GM :flag
p.s. it took me about 1 1/2 hrs. to remove all the junk :thumbs

Another option...

Find someone that recently installed the carpet kit (like me) that has the plastic liner available (like me) that wants to get rid of it (like, well, me).

I'm too lazy to search right now, but there is a thread in the Parts for Sale section with the liner in it.

Mine came that way. I'm much more apt to use it like a truck. I'd be afraid of messing up the foo-foo on the limited edition.

Mine came without the cargo compartment trim, however, my tailgate is trimed. I put some black auto carpet on the floor of the bed (under the tracks). I also bought a set of the tie downs for the tracks and added a standard cargo net. I think it all looks real good, is very functional and only a fraction of the cost.

It's hard to find one without the cargo add ons. I've asked why but it seems to be one of those mysteries of Chevy dealerships that no one can explain. :)

I got mine with the 1SA package and no add ons except the aux guage set, but I had to have it shipped in from 1200 miles away. Still saved me probably 7 grand.

I got a plasic container from Office Depot, and used tie-downs to tie it to one of the two cargo hooks. I use it to hold all the odds and ends, and I can just flip it up on it's side if I need to haul stuff. I also picked up a folding two wheel cart "As seen on TV!", for groceries and stuff.

I'm very happy with that setup.
