Is silicone on the paint damaging?
I had my vehicle at the dealership yesterday and had them put silicone on the rubber strips all over. Bad idea. The car was covered with some kind of brown sawdust when I picked it up and there was silicone grease all over the paint. I took it home and washed it myself but some of the silicone was still on this morning. I thought I had read that silicone grease can damage paint? True or false?

TRUE: It is bad if you ever want to paint it again! Silicone is a painter's worst nightmare!
FALSE: The only common thing that I know that really hurts paint jobs in brake fluid.

Ed I've used silicone spray lubricant for over 25 years on all my cars & trucks rubber seals, including my SSR. It keeps the rubber soft and pliable and I've never had any trouble with it ruining a paint job. While it is hard to get off of the paint, try using some of the quick detailing products to get it off. It seems to work pretty well for me.

Thanks folks. I know about grease from fingers and how that creates a nightmare on a vehicle when painting it. That was one of my major mess ups until I realized the importance of disposable gloves! Nothing like a mistake you have to do over to remember something important. I was just worried about that junk sitting on the paint in the sun all day at the dealer while I was at work. I detailed it when I got home and most of it came off with zaino.
Did you use the Z bar? I am sure Don would say to wash that area with Dawn Original again and start all over with the Zaino

Dude...u needed 2 jump rite up in his face bout that crap!!! :cuss I'd b tearin him a new dark tunnel 4 tryin that with my ride.
U need 2 file a complaint with his boss n GM. :yesnod These rides rn't a Pinto ya know. They're expensive toys n shud b treated that way. :thumbs

I would clay bar your ssr then 3m has a product called general adhesive remover wipe it down with that then wax. Maybe this will help

Good advice Machell. Even the Zaino directions say to used Original Dawn to remove EVERYTHING from you finish. I'd try that first too.

Not that I ever tried that when I was young and stupid... But a guy I knew in high school, that's a different story.
