It's OK
Ed I've used silicone spray lubricant for over 25 years on all my cars & trucks rubber seals, including my SSR. It keeps the rubber soft and pliable and I've never had any trouble with it ruining a paint job. While it is hard to get off of the paint, try using some of the quick detailing products to get it off. It seems to work pretty well for me.
