Thinking about going tomorrow to negotiate a lease and have never done this before. I have always put half down and financed the rest for 5 yrs.

I have had my vert on a dealers lot on consignment just trying to get $1000 over wholesale for the last month. with all the rain in CA it has not moved . So now I am getting impatient and want to maybe lease. Chevy is advertising $3999 @ $499 mo for 36 mos excess is .20/mile I drive approx 15,000 on each car for a total of 30K miles a year . So what kind of # to pay for excess over 12K per yr

Do I still negotiate best price then ask for lease #'s how do I know if I am getting screwed?

What would a fair residual be?

What or how much is gap insurance?

the SSR I want is MSRP$50,400 I think I can get around $3500 off

I want an SSR in my garage by noon on Sunday...........I am having an ssrfanatic attack .please help

Leases can be a great deal. A three year lease is cheaper than a 5 year loan, so if you're planning on getting a new car every 3 years its' cheaper.

However, you normally don't have lot of negotition room on a lease. Also, don't let them talk you into a lease that extends past the warrenty. You are responsible for returning the vehicle in good condition, regardless of what it costs you for repairs.

Mileage is the big problem. When you return the car you write a check for .20/mile. If you're 10,000 over, that's a big check. :)

My last 3 vehicles I bought I put half down and financed the rest. One (2001 vet)I kept 4 years the other (2002 BMW ) 2 years and the other (2004 Mini Cooper) 1 year. All of them I thought I was going to keep for ever. Didn't happen my tastes changed and all of them I lost $$ that, had I leased , the money would have stayed in my pocket!. My wife is a different story she wants to keep her cars 5 to 10 years. For her its just transportation.

I drive 28K to 30Kmiles a year, so I always bought before ,but now I am thinking if I lease 1 or two cars at a time this can work to my advantage with my business. I get the waranty from manufacture while I have the vehicle and dont have to purchase extra coverage. And in 2007 or 2008 I can trade for a new and yes improved SSR.;)

I have a 2006 Z06 on order that I will purchase because I think this one I will keep forever......but I thought the same on my last one too but I traded it in for the SSR with 18 payments still to go

So all I am saying is if you sell or trade your car in before you have paid it off you really were leasing all along anyhow. You just called it buying but you never really owned , the finance company owned it :jester
