Not to re-hash an old thread but in your opinion is the SSR missing something that would really make the looks or the vehicle stand out and maybe spur sales?

For me I think they should have added more gadgets like:

1) Remote Starter (on keyfob)
2) Remote Top Up and Down (on keyfob)
3) Chrome Front Grill
4) Cross-bar in the back like the concept
5) Metal Flake/Peral Coat Colors
6) Alternate Interiors
7) A stripper (Female or Male-you get to pick) :reddevil
8) JimG's Hood Ornament (an absolute must!) :lol

But I think what would really make it stand out is the more aggessive grill of the concept pictures. Don't get me wrong. I love the SSR. However when I look at it next to the Prowler it just looks like it needs a certain something.

Spurring Sales

I keep seeing mssgs about lack of sales and that having something to do with shortcomings of the SSR and finally will have something to say. An SB1 SSR is a toy truck, it's a very cool toy truck, but it's a toy. Don't take that as a condemnation, it isn't, but I own and use trucks as trucks and also own an SSR that my wife uses as a grocery getter and cruiser, a function it performers with excellence. I own a small construction company and the last thing I'd do is throw a bunch of my tools in that bed, for it's sake, and it would be damnably awkward to work out of, not to mention that my fold up 16' ladder won't fit in it, while it does fit sideways in my 74 K5. GM made a stupid decision to over-produce a specialty vehicle, one that has a naturally small market. There really isn't much to be done about the market, cheapen it up and it loses the people who buy it now, add much more and the bottom end of the buyers would be forced out, the Halo concept doesn't have anything wrong with it, but going overboard with production sure does. That kills dealer interest, who wants that kind of money tied up in a truck that takes 6 mo to sell and looks bad unsold?

Sure, a pony car Camaro makes sense, the 3rd & 4th generations sure didn't, but that has nothing to do with the SSR market, that's a "hot car" market. If GM wants to have so many car lines, then it needs to scrap the overlaps and build more "niche" cars. Owning a Pontiac or Buick ought to mean a different car than some trim BS on a Monte Carlo (or whatever). The 'Vette and the SSR show GM can build a cool car and the GTO shows they can import one. ah well, GM hasn't offered a seat on the board and I don't expect one soon...

By the way. I'm pefectly happy having the only one I know of in NE OR, I'd be darned unhappy to have one of 3 or 4 in a town of 10K, which is one reason I traded the red 03 Grand Am for the SSR, well, that and I was tired of paying for a car I didn't like.

I disagree. The SSR is a toy truck next to the trucks you use in construction, but not all of us are in construction. Some of us are programmers who are looking for something a bit more macho than a little sports car.

To me, the coolest picture I've seen of the SSR is one where a farmer is unloading hay from the back. The reason no one is aware of the SSR is that it doesn't fit into the Chevy lineup. So when you see an ad you can't put it into your conception of Chevy. Chevy is known for big macho pickups with a bit of a retro look. The SSR looks like that was the original idea, to attract people like me who need a bit more refinement than a regular pickup.

But then it looks like someone decided to overlay the basic 2 1/2 ton tough little pickup with a gay European look, with plastic bumpers and stuff.

We really shouldn't use the word "gay" in the same sentence with "SSR" (Not that there's anything wrong with that).

Guys and Gals-No Hijacking

Guys and Gals no hijacking. :nono :lol Back to the subject. Is the SSR Missing Something for that really could make the looks stand out even more?

Ok, for my toy truck I'd like to have :

Onstar
Remote Start
Remote Top (hard on battery)
575HP rather than 300HP (no, I can't buy another one)

I like the looks of the truck (I spent a lot of money to have one)
Axiom, et al need something to do, GM shouldn't have all the fun

Gee, I know it's a half ton truck, but I like it for a toy, I have trucks for off-road, tools, junk, race car towing, and an actual fast car, I've darn near got a fleet

In order - personally owned
62 ChevyII
74 K5
78 Nova
88 Pace Arrow 36'
04 SSR SB1

available
50 Chev COE 24K GVW Dump
78 K20 utility box - daily use

My 2 cents

It would be nice to have:

1) Remote Starter (on keyfob)
2) Remote Top Up and Down (on keyfob)
3) Chrome Front Grill
4) Alternate Interiors
5) "Real" cup holders

For what it's worth - I don't consider the SSR a truck, just like I didn't consider the El Camino or (please forgive me) the Ranchero a truck. But I owned 2 El Caminos (75 & 77) because I wanted the comfort and ride of a car and some hualing & storage capacity of a truck. While working construction and traveling long distances hauling transits, levels, rods and the like, the El Camino w/tonneau cover was the perfect vehicle for me. Now the only thing I haul is my 58 year old a** in an over priced, but great looking El Camino. :yawn

Sorry!

Real bumpers. A tournea cover that folds back like one of the other Chevy trucks have.

Two tone exteriors and interiors! I have a 2003 100th anniv. F150 HarleyDavidson that is silver and black in and out and the SSR would truly benefit from that look Chrome grille and front bumpers, too? YES!!!!!!!!!

I would love to have a chrome front bumper, this would correct the "curved under" look of the front, and better replicate the truck it was designed to recall.
From reading past threads, I recall that the '47 - '52 Chevy pickups did not have chrome grills because chrome was still in short supply after the end of WW II. Here's another member's pic - can't remember who's it is, but I believe that's a '52 pickup.

Gauges on the Window Frame

How about having the gauge package on the Window Pillar instead of were it is now. It would be a lot easier for the driver to see. It would make the vehicle look more cool and the best yet. It would free up the space for a navigation system or true cup holder! :thumbs
