here I am, online when I should be out playing with my :ssr and that dang Slingshot went past my window again...I suspect they already know who I am and don't want to have anything to do with a "girl" UV :lol

Randi,

Don't take it to that dealer for service. "Now the engine light is on". They don't know what they are doing!

You should definately take it back to a chevy dealer for service when that light comes on. They plug it into their computer and the codes come up stating what is wrong and what needs to be done. I for one, would find another dealer. I had to go through every dealer in my area until I found one that had the knowledge and expertise to work on Black Betty! I feel your pain, been there and done that a lot but now she works soooooo good! 25,000 miles and she purrs like a kitten.

Tony,

I will stay with a dealer but there are only 2 in the high desert, one in Barstow and one in Victorville. The Victorville guy has worked on the SSR some as the general manager usually drives one. Sorry to say, if I have to go down the hill to have someone work on my baby then I will have to find another baby...don't have the time or patience to be wandering all over creation. I don't want to give the UV up but I tend to be impulsive and if it continues to act up :mad ...then...???? Tim has been good at soothing those impulsive tendencies for now...

It will go back to the shop on Thursday while I am at work, didn't drive it today because I needed to put gas in Tim's vehicle (he rarely drives it into town) and will probably drive his tomorrow as I will have to be in the field (asst principal duties) and his A/C works lots better than mine. Want mine to get better soon, hoped to have flames put on before our next socal event...

Clarification

Randi,

I don't know if people mis-read my post because what I said was " don't take it to THAT dealer for service". By all means take it to a dealer but take it to someone who is qualified.

The Prowler never and I mean never goes to anyone but Ontario Chrysler. They have people who know all about the Prowler over there. In fact, one of the other sites I visit has them listed as a great place for my area. Do I like driving the (40) miles to them? No. But it's worth it for these specialty vehicles. Not everyone knows how to work on them.

Find a dealer who is reputable and who knows what to do. Hopefully, the times when something needs servicing will be few so you won't always have to go out of your way. Also if you find someone who is reputable and knows how to work on SSR's then you are less likely to be dissappointed and frustrated. :thumbs

Just think with someone who knows about the SSR you could have made one trip (albet longer) and been satified. Now you have to make another trip and hope they can get it right this time. :nodno

I hope that they fix it and that you are satisfied this time. :)

hey Eric...

I talked to the service tech locally that is trained with the SSR, he is a bit older guy and has been with Chevrolet a long time. I am going to trust him at this point only because he was able to correct the window rolling issue the "correct" :thumbs way the first time out and is concerned that the check engine light is still on. It will go back in on Thursday a.m. and hopefully it will be fixed and the problem will not be major. This is not the first vehicle where the check engine light has come on and it probably won't be the last. As long as it is under warranty I won't take issue with much. Once it is spending more time in the shop than out :nono ...that becomes a much larger issue.

Personally, I don't like driving down the hill and I don't like freeway driving much anymore. Had to do it too many years and I prefer to stay up the hill as much as possible...in my own little world. If my favorite service tech ends up being "down below" then we will either have to move :lol or I drive something more dependable.

It is my wish that the :ssr will be my last vehicle...I will retire about the same time it is paid off...Tim, I am sure, will get something else along the way, but I do want it to be dependable, running, working, cooling, and fun to drive :)

Found this info on check engine light

Owners of some 2003-04 Chevrolet SSRs may comment on one or more of the following conditions:
- Air bag light on
- Check Engine light on
- Service Air Bag message displayed
- Reduced Engine Power message displayed
- Park lamps stay on all the time

In addtion to referring to Bulletin 04-08-45-003, there is one additional area of wire chafing to inspect -- the main vehicle wire harness in front of the master cylinder. An open seam in the conduit can allow the exposed wires to contact the front of the master cylinder and chafe. If wire chafing is found, follow published wire repair procedures in SI. Make sure all the wires are installed into the conduit, then tape the conduit closed and reposition it so it does not contact the master cylinder.

Hey Tony...yeah, Barney is back home. :thumbs Seems there was a wire not connected. See my thread Jim G. Anybody, it gives the service tech breakdown and Jim's response. So far, so good, ran errands all day Friday in 110+ heat and it only moved a bit over 210 with city (?) traffic. Tim and I are going to Seattle soon and I wanted to take the :ssr but its going to have to prove itself to him...3 trips to the service bay since March is too many, so we're going in the Lincoln LS...Tim says its more comfortable anyway and we're taking my dog, so more room too. :mad NOT AS MUCH FUN!!!!!

Glad Barney's Back Home

Have fun in Seattle I can see Tim's point, there' alot of Chevy Dealers on the way there but only maybe one or two tech's that know how to work on Barney. But after all the LS has got to get out and run too!!:thumbs

Happy LSing
