Joy w/SSR souring fast; service dept not very acommodating....

Well guys,
I am having serious second thoughts about this SSR.
Purchased 9-30-04; last week had no A/C.
Called service dept and they from the moment I called were indicating I would have to leave it and drive a rental.... before they even knew the problem.

Now, after 3 hours there, they tell me that it is the Control Panel for the A/C and it must be ordered. my service tech (drive manager) tells me it should be in tomorrow; I then call another Chevy dealership to see if they have the part; no luck. They, too, say they would have to order part and that it would take a WEEK to get it. I then call my service dept back and tell him what I learned and I was also told the only way it would get there tomorrow is if it is ordered overnight w/additional freight charges.

I have a vacation to Florida planned next week :cuss and MUST HAVE MY A/C. Told service manager if overnight shipping is a possibility, get it; I WILL PAY THE FREIGHT.
I was never even told about this and wouldn't have known if I had not called the other dealership. When I said I would pay the freight, he said he would check to see how it was ordered and would do whatever he could; no guarantees... what a disappointment.

I did have to leave it; have a wonderful Tracker to drive around.

Guess it is so foreign to me because before the SSR I had Toyotas for 10 years and never once had to go to the service dept except for oil changes.

I feel jerked around...like they really don't care if they get it fixed or when they get it fixed.

Is this the norm for Chevrolet service departments? :mad :cuss

I've been a GM guy all my life and a Chevy guy in particular. I've never had a problem with service but in any people business, which service is, there are eventually going to be problems. It's not the SSR's fault, it's the people. If worst comes to worse leave the top down and cruise!!! :ssr Get natural A/C :thumbs
I feel badly for you, but car are not always perfect, in fact, they seem to break down at exactly the wrong time. I have been in the car buisness a long time and I have seen this happen over and over. Not just with Chevrolets. I always remember what my Dad told me a long time ago. What man makes Breaks....What God makes dies. Have a good day
Wow just one problem since Sept 04? I wish I was that lucky....
'Cutie...not much fun is it

I have had 7 Warranty items replaced in the past year. Each has been while I waited IF no parts were involved. Have had "rentals" and "loaners" three times. each of those times when overnight "Rentals" were involved the part was ordered "overnight" no questions asked. In our area, Fla, GA, the regional distribution point is in Jacksonville. They call there to see if the part is available. If it is, should be one day delivery.
Also, as far as "rentals" go, when Enterprise came after me at the dealership, they asked what kind of vehicle I was driving. When I told them they said "Well we give you a comparable vehicle as a rental. That time they gave me a Cadillac CTS for three days when troubleshooting and eventually changing the PCM. Drove it to a two day golf tournament in Buloxi which I had planned, and was OK with them.

Living here I know you have to have A/C this time of year. Hope it works out so not to screw up your vacation next week. What part of Fl is vacation taking you to??

Yea, what's with it taking a week for Chevy to get in parts? I was shocked when the dealership told me it was going to take a week to get in a guage set for a new SSR. In this day and age being told I have to wait a week before the vendor is going to take my money. :)

As a techno-nerd I'm much more used to things running at internet speed.

Oh, well. I guess it 's the retro thing. Back in the fifties those little gas service stations would probably take a week to get a part in from the big city. :lol

Going to Cabbage Key (off of Pine Island; southwest Florida, Gulfcoast and then to Sanibel Island.

I didn't get a Cadillac; wasn't so lucky; they didn't even ask me what I was driving; rented car right there at the dealership.

Thanks for the encouragement!
Purple Penelope,
What warranty items have you had to have replaced?
Just curious.

We are staying at Seaside Inn, a sister property to South Seas Plantation (that's on Captiva I think?) and definitely have plans to visit the Bubble Room this time;didn't go there on our previous visits (we've been to Sanibel 3 other times), but a friend highly recommended the Bubble Room for great food!
We will be shelling at Cayo Costa and just basically relaxing @ Cabbage Key.
Never been there; sounds great; can't wait! :) :seeya
I have a place in Lovers Key right near Sanibal. i absolutly love it there. Don't get to visit as often as I would like but i plan on going the beginning of May only bad part is I have to leave my SSR home.

'cutie...think I can remember them.

Both cup holders in the dash
Bracket on right side of console for large cup holder
Knee bolster on lower instrument panel
2 emission sensors
PCM

Dealer still hasn't admitted the one inch gap in the windshield antenna is from the factory sticker being removed at purchase. :cuss

Patience?

Be Happy :)

Try getting a Motorcoach (quarter million) repaired. Two years and they are still fixing things, over 200 items and counting. Some items have been repaired 4 or 5 times. As I vent, they are fixing the dash air, air bag suspension and on board computer for the fifth time. CAN YOU SAY LEMON! :mad. OH, and they crashed it, too.

We have had one minor problem with the SSR, discolored front bowtie, dealer had it next day. Might have a problem down the road, but every thing OK right now. :skep
