Maybe this is not the best place to vent but I needed to do it somewhere!

I just found out that apparently there has been some dealer kick backs announced by general motors, and my once $47,000+ 2005 SSR is now worth about $10,000 less, less than two weeks later.

I traded my MINT condition 2000 Camaro Z28 (with 400+ HP and other modifications) that had 7300 miles on it for this 2005 SSR they of course showed me they gave me $16,000 for my car and then made me belove that they were giving me $1,000 cash back. In reality that comes from GM and not the deal (Yes I already knew that). Well I really wanted a 05 Vett they had but it was about $5,000 over what i had.

Well I fell into some money, and I took the SSR back to them (200 miles later) and was willing to give them $6,000 and some change for the Vett, well low and behold the SSR with 200 miles is now only worth $34,000!!!

They wanted $13,000 and the SSR. BULLS*T!

I will NEVER buy another GM product again. See ya GM and I will tell everyone I can what they did.

Sorry, delete this post if you like but I feel used and abused I probably will never drive the SSR again, anyone want a good used SRR for $40,000! Probably not I will be lucky to get $35 out of, and that is what I owe on it.

Makes me mad to thing the dealer stole my wonderful Z28 from me, and to boot a dealer I trusted for over 40 years!

BTW if you want to know the dealer, email me and I will tell you. They are in Illinois.
well you little cry baby I hate to break it to you but your 2000 camaro was not worth **** anyway buddy. And for you losing your 10 g on the truck almost all cars these days do not hold there value. So go be a little [Edit]***** and buy a Ja* piece of **** and don't come crying when you lose your job to the ja** either.

I understand that you are unhappy with the way things turned out. Research before making such a significant transaction would have been advised. The one that you should be angry at for making such a "bad" deal will be in the morror watching you shave in the morning, tell him about. Life's lessons can be expensive.

Everyone here knows that I'm not a big fan of GM and have my own issues about the lack of power and how they made our cars be worth half what we paid in a year. But are you comparing a camaro to this car? give me a break. there isn't a car on the market today that turns heads like the SSR. Your Camaro and even the vettes are dime a dozen. everyone has them. if you really wanted the vette, you should have gotten one.

GM over produced the car and made the dealers mad by not giving them a sufficient margin. The "st"ealers in return tried to rape the public by asking 10-15K over the sticker in the first 6 months alienating many customers. All this lead to this mess we are in right now. I am not planning to sell the SSR for a long time so I don't really care how much it is worth.

Buying New Cars

First rule of buying a new car is there is no such thing as trade in. Think give in, that is more accurate.

Second before buying any car be sure to research the national value. Whatever the lowest price in the country will be your starting value very soon no matter what you paid.

I find that you cannot actually buy a car for less than that national value but you can very well pay much more than that value. What I mean is that if you do not know where the price is lower then you will pay too much. For instance any SUV in the Portland area is usually advertised for $10k to $12k off list in the paper day after day. If you did not know that do you think the dealer would offer you that discount? NOPE they would let you twist their arm down a few grand and make you think you got a steal. Then when you went to sell your SUV next month you'd be $10k upside down. And your $10,000 trade in would be gone to the dealer for $3500 to $4500.

And the more you want the new one the more they will get. I have a friend in the new car business and his stories are amazing.

30 years ago I must have made a Big Mistake

Gosh.......I must be the scum of the earth, having been in this terrible car business
all these years. It doesn't take long once I get on this site to be humbled in a big hurry. It is real easy to judge dealerships across the country and I know that some are not as good as others. But Please don't assume that all are the same,
they are not. As I have said before, there are good and bad people in all walks of life and in all businesses. We (believe it or not I am a consumer too) need to be educated enough to make the right decisions. This site is a very good source to help people get the facts. In most cases the people here will try to steer you in the right direction. But, again, you must consider the source and it is pretty easy for me to figure out how is in the know and who is Not.

THERE.........I'm offically off the soap box.......Someone give me the Penny for my thoughts.

Wrong place to post such a topic so I deleted it.

Obviously no one here cares, so go screw yourselfs!

For you to come on to this forum and make such a statement only proves that you are not into doing any homework at all before you make a decision.
Buying the car was an impulse you got burned on. Too freakin bad. Its your mistake, live with it.
But then to come on here and make the assumption that nobody cares!!!! This group of people is probably the most caring helpful group of people you will find anywhere. Had you found this site sooner, by doing your homework, you would have found this out. Many people have been helped by members of this forum on just about everything involving their SSR and then some.
I for one think you owe us all an apology and for the comment made and you should be banned from this site if you don't.
Theres my 3 cents(inflation)

If would be nice if he was a supporting member before he is banned.

As a friend once told me, a car is not an investment, it is only something to enjoy. When you are tired of it, take a deep breath, do your homework and try to get the best deal you can. You will never win with a dealer. At the end of the day just be thankful if you can look at yourself in the mirror and say to yourself that you did the best you could. As long as you are happy with your new purchase you will be happy.

The only time I ever make money is when I trade a Ferrari. There is very little supply and very high demand. The usual wait for a new one is 2 - 5 years. Now that is a wait, but worth it. I don't know of too many other vehicles I would wait that long for.

My 2 cents on the subject !

Should have ebay'd his Camero

The guy should have ebay'd his Camero, like I did my 99 Vette. I got top dollar for it!
I had already located the SSR that I wanted & bought it the next day. You just don't get a good trade-in on any type of specialty car. Like others have said; He should have done his homework!

This guy needs to get a life. I do not think he has ever bought a new car before. You always lose money as soon as you drive off the lot. I think he is very :confused

Almost everyone on our site will listen and will also try to help you out if you truly want that. However you have to be willing to listen too and not just shut down when someone responds back to you (negatively) in the similar manner that you actually started out in this thread.

Well I fell into some money, and I took the SSR back to them (200 miles later) and was willing to give them $6,000 and some change for the Vett, well low and behold the SSR with 200 miles is now only worth $34,000!!!

First I am really glad you fell into some extra money... however I believe it is the real reason you now want to trade up. The dealer doesn't have to give you 99% of your purchase price back to you. *Now for a little off topic comment* Unfortunately there are other GM Brands that do allow you 30 days to evaluate their product and bring back and or exchange your vehicle for another.

They wanted $13,000 and the SSR. BULLS*T!

May I make a suggestion? I would take your SSR and try to sell it on EBay or put an ad in the local newspaper. You might just find someone that will buy it for a few $1000 less than you just paid for it.

Might I make one more suggestion? Go back to your local dealer (friends for 40 yrs. has to mean something) with a more "level head" and try to strike up a deal with them either having them try to sell it for you or maybe even ask them to put it on EBay. In turn try to persuade them to help you out so you can then buy or will order a new 05 Corvette from them. Talk about your wanting to continue with your great relationship that you have developed for many years and perhaps you can "re-motivate" them to help you try to sell your SSR for you! Remember to remind them that you have bought x amount of cars over the years and you really want to continue your great relationship with them etc.

Ps You might just want to think about keeping your awesome new vehicle... I have owned a number of great Corvettes... but I still love my SSR too! I hope with a calmer head you will make the right choice for you.
