Last night coming out of the gym my foot hit the running board and I heard a jingling sound. It was the last of the two bolts on the front edge of my running boards. One apparently fell out and I had one left on the front. The others were loose too! You may want to check for loose bolts and nuts occassionally (not to mention the ones on the road trying to crash into us) and tighten as necessary. I went around with my ratchet and tightened quite a few. All of the running board bolts had come loose, some significantly. :seeya

Did you also check your tires to make sure they didn't get lodged there. WHat kind of screws did you use? I am wondering if you use lock tite on them would this help the stay on better?
I am glad you caught this before they fell off while you were driving, YIKES!

Actually, the running boards were installed by me because the dealer wanted a small fortune at the time to install them and was going to tie up my ride for a period of days to do what I did in 20 minutes. The lock tight is going to do the trick for sure. Wish I had thought of that first time around.

I knew when I bought my SSR that it was one of the first 1000 and was bound to have a lot of problems, as any new entry into the automotive market does. Just think about it, who else has a vertically stored hard top out there? No one. I can live with the problems that have come up and no, I don't want a replacement, I love this very truck!!!!, Especially since I painted it myself, it is even more personal to me. HOpefully once the blower is fixed and the new hinges ordered and put on, I will be done with my problems. I still feel this is probably the most incredible thing to ever come out of General Motors and commend them for their efforts. I can't imagine how they will ever be able to top this vehicle in terms of style and performance.

DANG it's nice to hear that someone else feels the same way that I do!

Man, I just love my chocolate lab.....had to say that. We've been through a lot together. to the point...went to two dealers and several hardware stores to get replacement bolts and washers for the one that fell off of my running board. Guess what? Dealerships say you can't order the hardware or bolts individually. They must sell you the entire running board kit! The guys at Colonial Chevrolet (Rick Hendricks) gave me instructions to a "Loose nuts and bolts" place and sure enough, they had a fix. Not the OEM bolts and washers, but they fit. Now, where is that ball Bo?

Learned my F-O-R-D lesson way back in 1972. Had a company car - LTD - that was one of the worst POS's I ever had. And got jacked around by the dealers like you wouldn't believe. Parted company with Henry and have stayed with the General ever since, except for one Volvo that was great and, more recently, a PT Cruiser that I turned in for the SSR.
