Well guys, I lost the battle with the "wife" police. Was setting up to get the '05 aqua blua and had to take the wife for the final approval. Well, I tried my best. Everything going good until the salesman of all people mentioned to her that there was no spare tire. Well, now I know how it feels when the walls fall down upon ya with the look the wife gave me. I asked salesman if he could switch the tires to the same as the corvette uses and said no way can you do that because of weight. So, I believed that part. Wife continued on only being two seats which I convinced her before we arrived at dealership that it wouldn't be a proble, we still had another car if needed to accompany other poassengers. But the no spare tire thing blew the cork off. I tried in vain. No luck.
So, for the past three weeks I've been driving around in my new GTO '05. I went to a dealership and did a dealer trade for the color I wanted. Midnight Blue and all is well with the wife, 4 seats and a spare tire. I have to admit, there's a whole lotta power in the GTO. Doesn't get the stand out looks as the SSR but when I first drove my salesman for a joy ride , some guy driving along side of us had his cell phone camera taking pics of the GTO. Not bad for a car that ddin't go a mile yet. Had a couple of little things go wrong so far, dealer fixed it up and no more problems. The big thing is when I start the GTO the SEG gets wider and wider. The exhaust note on it is awesome.
Well, just let you guys know what happened. I enjoy this room and still read all the talk in hear. Good luck with all your SSR's. And if anyone is considering one, get it. It's a fun car (truck) to drive.

Similar thing happened to me a few years ago. In late 00 we bought her a Durango with the 5.9L. The only one with all the options we wanted was Chili Pepper Red which she wasn't really fond of, but said okay... and I heard about the color for the next three years... :lol

She is now happy in an 03 Chevy Trailblazer EXT. :cheers

Meanwhile, I occasionally drive a Corvette with 2 seats and no spare.

Hell, MINE couldn't stand the Vette I bought 3 weeks ago (comfort issues plus she just didn't like it), and today we traded it in on a brand new 04 SSR - she was excited when I mentioned I was looking at them, and she really dug the whole package when she got to see for herself.

(Note: When the spare tire thing came up, I played goalie and mentioned the plug and compressor kit right quick, along with the runflats' noisy ride on the Vette.)

Have fun w/the Goat, man, performance in a sleeper package.

I'm thinking back to all the times I had to use a spare tire in my car driving history--never--thats what 1-800-Call-a-Tow-Truck is for! Buying the SSR far better outweighs the chances of ever having to use it--so who cares if you dont have one! :cheers

Dude, no kidding, when I had to tell the Vette forum of my plight, 50% of them (in a hundred-post thread) said "ditch the woman" and nearly the other 50% said "make her take her own damn car" - and they didn't sound like they were kidding.

Very few of them commended me on being so concerned for her happiness, even after I reminded them she actually said "no, you like the car, you keep the car, it's your car".

Yeah, it's my car either way, but aren't you guys happier when there's a smile from the passenger as well? I thought so =0)

The thought did occur to me when I was looking at the SSR in the bright sunlight as it was turning all kinds of rainbow colors in the piant(blue,green purple). But, I guess I watch too much law & order for that. Just :banghead thinking about the roof going up and down :ssr and having some fun. Oh well, next one.

Maybe I'm a little more fortunate with my wife. She knows if I get something in my head it's gonna happen. I did consult here for an oponion before I went to Erie to pick up Penelope. She said, "Just be sure that's what you want" She's a 9.5 on a scale of 10. :thumbs

When she found out the second key FOB would adjust the seat to her own setting, that was more important than the lack of a spare tire. Maybe some day it won't be. :cuss

I have had my SSR since Feb of '04 and the wife STILL refuses to even sit in it. She never drives it and ALWAYS throws it in my face that I bought the car especially over her objections.

And it is true.....everything she does now she says..."well you bought that SSR" To date it has cost me a trip (for her) to Cancun and Aruba (boy if she knew they were all free points for the plane and hotel) and now she is in Disney with the kids. But look at the bright side. I get to drive the SSR. :lol

Then take her to the dealer, let her pick the car, color and options etc and that should make her very happy too. :thumbs

She is on her second 05 and I am still in my 03-GMC & 04-SSR. So I guess I can say that we both WON! :lol Hmmm maybe she is actually better off ... :eek because she gets to have fun with me in the SSR too ... hmmmm

Wow Double-L yours sounds a lot like mine. She does ok with vettes but when I bought the 03 Z06 she said why. Then I got the Ram SRT-10 and she said why. She now concedes that I will get a new vette when I want one and now she loves the Ram SRT-10 and says not to sell it to buy the SSR. But she always asks why do you need a fast or faster car or truck. I gave up trying to explain it a while ago. Now I just say to her that she will not understand if I tell her.

Mine said also that if I get "the stupid truck" she will not ride in it either. Just last night she said she will call it stupid all the time. Like "are we going to take stupid for a ride".
