Those who remember, I made my PERMAGRIN windscreen with 1/4 inch Lexan but I removed the protective paper prior to cutting it and it scratched. I then tried to polish it but that only made it worse, probably because I didn’t know what I was doing. So, I decided to make a new one using 1/2 inch Plexiglas and then I tried using my laser etcher to burn in the truck & SSR image but that came out wrong. So I used my Dremel to grind off the image in the shape of the Chevy bow tie and added a Vinyl SSR next to it.

Thanks everyone. This product is very easy to cut but I tried using a router like was suggested and the bit caught and cracked it so I went back to a jigsaw with a fine metal blade and used a belt sander to smooth out the edges. The LED I used is Ice Blue and any marks refract the light and glow so that’s why the edges and the bow light up. I purchased a 1/2" edge strip and put the LED’s inside that. I plan on tracing the SSR with the Dremel to light the vinyl letters up as well. I’ll post pics when I do it. I’m also making a 3/8 inch one and probably selling it when it’s done.

You all are too kind. I love making things and the SSR is my new passion. I also appreciate those who would rather keep things stock because there’s a beauty and significance to that as well. As I’ve said from the start, this is a wonderful site and the people here are great, no matter the country they shout from. I look forward to meeting a bunch of you at the Vally Ralley in NC.

I tried the torch this morning on a piece of scrap and it does clear it up a bit but after everything I went through to get it completed I don't want to risk Murphy showing up again and causing me to ruin it. Especially now that I have a scratch free one.

I actually like the way the edge glows and I have the LED's on a switch in the center counsel compartment so at night I can turn it off to allow for less light noise in the cab when the top is up.

I'll post more photos after I get the lower 1/2 wrapped Matt Black. She's got a long way to go before she looks as good as some of the beauties I've seen here and hopefully I'll be around long enough to make that happen. ;)

The Bow Tie is definitely in my line of sight but @ 5' 6" the top edge isn't. I'm not that worried about it since driving 14 wheelers I'm used to using my side mirrors often and I've added convex to help with the bind spots. 😁

@Lethal Tendencies, I'm using SUPERNIGHT Blue and I get them on Amazon:

I buy the reel and cut to size. Of course, you'll need to expose the cut section and solder wires to it so you can fire it up.

And did you use a rubber channel molding along the bottom to hold the LEDs in place and minimize light leakage along the bottom? If so, where did you source that from? Thanks!!

Yes, trim molding with bendable metal inside helps trap the light and give it a cleaner look. Amazon sells them but they didn’t have the 1/2 inch I was looking for so I Googled it and found it sold by the foot on EBay.

A quick question and it may not effect you with your design. When I had the factory screen one with the black frame the top of the frame was right in the middle of my line of sight when looking in the mirror. I have the plexi glass ones in my other trucks and they are all drop down in the middle. I always figured that was to keep the edge out of the sight line. I see you did not do the drop down. Does the edge effect your look in the mirror at all? I realize that a taller person or maybe a shorter person would have a different view in the mirror but wondered if you see the edge or if there is any glare?
Took her out last night and realized the edge IS directly in the center of my rear view but it doesn’t distract at all. In fact, I was surprised at how little it lit up in that view but it’s crazy bright when viewed from the side.

I added a vinyl Bow Tie to extenuate the image:

But I didn’t try to score around the SSR letters because I experimented with a scape piece and ruined it so this is the way it’s going to stay.
