Those who remember, I made my PERMAGRIN windscreen with 1/4 inch Lexan but I removed the protective paper prior to cutting it and it scratched. I then tried to polish it but that only made it worse, probably because I didn’t know what I was doing. So, I decided to make a new one using 1/2 inch Plexiglas and then I tried using my laser etcher to burn in the truck & SSR image but that came out wrong. So I used my Dremel to grind off the image in the shape of the Chevy bow tie and added a Vinyl SSR next to it. View attachment 630233

WOW, incredible look!!! Why don’t you share a few more pictures of your “beauty”?

Wood Font Rectangle Gas Circle

I believe a clear edge will disappear. It is the frost that bends the light and makes it visible. @Sailing and I had one similar to this made for the Springfield Challenge Winner. The lettering is sandblasted on the back, the color is a transparent decal on the front with a sand blasted circle behind it and the light source is a string of LEDs following the curve in the base. The outer edge of the disk is polished clear and kind of disappears. Hope this will help save some expensive experimentation.

I actually like the way the edge glows and I have the LED's on a switch in the center counsel compartment so at night I can turn it off to allow for less light noise in the cab when the top is up.

I'll post more photos after I get the lower 1/2 wrapped Matt Black. She's got a long way to go before she looks as good as some of the beauties I've seen here and hopefully I'll be around long enough to make that happen. ;)

A quick question and it may not effect you with your design. When I had the factory screen one with the black frame the top of the frame was right in the middle of my line of sight when looking in the mirror. I have the plexi glass ones in my other trucks and they are all drop down in the middle. I always figured that was to keep the edge out of the sight line. I see you did not do the drop down. Does the edge effect your look in the mirror at all? I realize that a taller person or maybe a shorter person would have a different view in the mirror but wondered if you see the edge or if there is any glare?

The Bow Tie is definitely in my line of sight but @ 5' 6" the top edge isn't. I'm not that worried about it since driving 14 wheelers I'm used to using my side mirrors often and I've added convex to help with the bind spots. 😁

I think I have 1/2” thick piece of plexiglass in my material stockpile. What is the width and height needed to build one of these? I would take my own measurements, but mine is in the shop for a while.

@Lethal Tendencies, I'm using SUPERNIGHT Blue and I get them on Amazon:

I buy the reel and cut to size. Of course, you'll need to expose the cut section and solder wires to it so you can fire it up.

And did you use a rubber channel molding along the bottom to hold the LEDs in place and minimize light leakage along the bottom? If so, where did you source that from? Thanks!!

Yes, trim molding with bendable metal inside helps trap the light and give it a cleaner look. Amazon sells them but they didn’t have the 1/2 inch I was looking for so I Googled it and found it sold by the foot on EBay.

Took her out last night and realized the edge IS directly in the center of my rear view but it doesn’t distract at all. In fact, I was surprised at how little it lit up in that view but it’s crazy bright when viewed from the side.

I added a vinyl Bow Tie to extenuate the image:
Automotive lighting Motor vehicle Hood Vehicle Automotive design

But I didn’t try to score around the SSR letters because I experimented with a scape piece and ruined it so this is the way it’s going to stay.
