I know a lot of us will be away for Memorial Day so I figured I would start early. Wishing you all safe travels.
But let's not forget the meaning of the day.

God bless those that keep and protect us, past and present.

Please let's get the facts straight. Memorial Day is for honoring those military members who have made the ultimate sacrifice with their lives to protect the freedoms Americans enjoy. It has nothing to do with military members currently serving.

I agree that Memorial Day, originally Decoration Day, was designed to honor those that gave the ultimate sacrifice to our great nation. But, I can't help think where we would be if others were not willing to make that same sacrifice and for that I honor them as well.

I believe this is an excerpt from his orginal speech.

“We do not know one promise these men made, one pledge they gave, one word they spoke; but we do know they summed up and perfected, by one supreme act, the highest virtues of men and citizens. For love of country they accepted death, and thus resolved all doubts, and made immortal their patriotism and their virtue.”

– James A. Garfield, May 30, 1868, Arlington National Cemetery

Don't forget the families of those who lost loved ones who have the honor of being called a "Gold Star Family" but it is an honor no one wants... It is given to the family of those who had a family member killed in the defense of our freedom.

There are an estimated 1.7 million immediate family members who fit that description here in the US...

"All gave some" but on this day we honor those that gave their all, their very lives... 🇺🇸
