I have a terrible "moan" at a steady 50mph. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks, TOM :ssr
Hey Tom, I never ever thought to associate a "moan" sound with something being terrible... :glol

BTW: That sound reminds me of my younger years... oh gosh never mind!

Ps. Tom could you please give us better description of that terrible sound you were experiencing? :thumbs

After all you comics are done :) Lets use the word "DROWNNNN" .

I don't know any more to say except it's constant at a 45 to 60mph steady speed

I have not located a thred that speaks of this problem. I hope someone can guide, because the "GRONE" is driving me crazy.

Noise

Tom,

Is this noise with the top up or down?
What level is the bass set on the stereo?
Sometimes the bass level is just right at certain speeds due to the speed activated sound intensifier (volume goes up as speed increases to overcome the increased noise levels) in the stereo system to create a low intensity groan, moan or vibration you may be experiencing. Mine would do this at certain speeds, and I found this out by turning the stereo off while it was creating this noise (it went away), and tuning it back on while at constant speed (it returned),

Give it a try to see if yours is the same thing.

The exhaust system has been known to resonate at a droning pitch between 1500 and 1800 RPM. 1500 is right at 50 MPH. Marc talked about it here Try playing with the engine speed a little and see if that is the sound you hear.

It may be a good idea to go to your GM dealer and take the shop foreman for a ride so you can duplicate the noise for him.I have to believe your SSR is under warranty yet and the dealer will have to diagnose it before preforming the repair anyway. Many SSR owners exprience a differential gear set howl(moan) at the speed which goes away when you lift slightly on the accelerator.

As you can tell from this thread, there are going to be many suggestions as to what it is, your dealer will be the one with the answer.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions . I also think it's the exhaust . Would a cat-back system have the same problem ?

I really appreciate all the info that I've picked up since joing the 'CLUB'.

Thanks Again , TOM
