Bringing the New 06 Aqua Blur :blur:home next week.
:party:banana:banana:banana:party
Itinerary:
Wed: 2-21: Leaving ~1PM, Starting from South Dallas/Ft. Worth Hit I-20 and a really exciting 1000 mile trip along Interstate 20 until I get back to South Carolina. At least my infallible sense of direction and a GPS and maybe a couple passenger pigeons and I can't get really lost traveling the same road for 1000 miles.
Gonna try 300- 400 miles a day, Wanted to know if there is any place on that route anyone could recommend as a stop.

Wednesday Evening Day one should put me at least to Shreveport, LA. I really need to find someplace there, I know nothing about the area.
2-22:
Shreveport to Birmingham is 459 miles, Dinner with my Amigos to rest my traveling butt.
2-23
Birmingham to Columbia, SC is 360 miles, home to wash off the Road dust.

Got 8 days to be touristy, and I've never seen any of that part of the country except from the air. Plan Thursday stop in Birmingham to catch up with Phil and Greg & Jo Green.

Love to catch up with anyone I can along the way, Gonna try and post some trip pix along the way, hope it won't just be the welcome centers and rest areas.
Cell is 8034220947
Any suggestions are appreciated.

When do you arrive in Dallas. I live in Arlington, TX just off I 20 and a bunch more of us live in the area. Do you need a good 'send off'?

I would love to meet the Texas Gang. I still want Dinerman's Shirt.
You guys have the best SSR Shirt I've seen so far. I'm sure my new R will miss Texas.

Trip details:
Get into Dallas Ft Worth the Morning of the 21st. Traveling to Granbury from DFW airport to pick up new truck. I'm guessing I'll be ready to leave Granbury around 1-1:30PM, That would be roughly ~230-3PM back your way in Arlington. Too Early for Happy hour, But definitely worth trying to plan Early Bird Supper of some sort. All these times are an approximation. Never met Gene, really nice gentleman on the phone, I imagine me giving up my beloved SSR after 12 years, hard to estimate that time, but I'd be chatty.
That would give me enough drive time to get about 150 miles east of Arlington after meeting you guys. Sounds workable.
Still gotta plan where to stay that night, Lotta highway between Arlington and Shreveport.
I really want to stop and see the Mississippi River, gotta be something there along I-20 I can see that's not too far off my route. Should be there around Lunch time Thursday.

I'm "deep in the Pineywoods of East Texas," near Tyler. If the weather's nice, I'll stake out a spot on the I-20 frontage road, fire up a ceegar and wave to you as you fly by. :grin2:

Hope you have safe travels and congrats on the new "R."

Cary,

I'm sure that Mike @Light Show and I (as a minimum) would be willing to meet up with you; if you wanted to re-route your flight path home through Warner Robins, Georgia!?!? @Dragon2U and @Rockd41 also live in town and may want to meet up as well!?!?

Let us know what you'd like to do?

Vicksburg.

When you cross the Mississippi you are in Vicksburg, MS. 500 plus pre Civil War homes and mansions, including one octagon shaped 3 story mansion that construction was stopped because of the war and it as it was then, including workman's tools where they left them.
Also don't miss the Civil War Cemetery.

Hi Cary,

I have made this trek on numerous occasions, so I have a few suggestions. First night stop, Vicksburg, MS, has many interesting Civil War sites to view. Next night, Birmingham, AL, which has a several nice stops such as the Barber Vintage Motorsports and Vulcan Park. Next night, your home, sweet home!

Littered throughout this route are numerous opportunities to 'donate' your extra cash to the casinos if you are so inclined.

So enjoy your trip and get to know your 'R! :party :party

A very thoughtful offer. I think that could work. Should be about Lunchtime from Greg & Jo's in Birmingham. Was tentatively meeting my daughter in Augusta that Friday around lunch. First time she has invited Dad to her new Apartment since she left the nest. Also is her first week at new job managing Augusta Petsmart, I don't dare miss that. It might be doable that I can see if I can meet her for dinner, and stay overnight in Augusta, & I'd get more time with her. Would work for me, but I got some rearranging to do.
Maybe DragonMike has some Bling I just can't do without, but its always good to see Mike Regardless.
We gonna be there in October to see you again for the Southeast Rally!!!!!

Vicksburg are looks attractive.
Given the late start in Granbury, and meeting up with Arlington group, Vicksburg is a little out of my range for first night. Gotta get up at 0400 for my flight that day, If I get 150 miles past Arlington that will be an Accomplishment. Mississippi is midday day 2, but that Vicksburg area seems like a good place to find a special stop. I gotta get my toe in the Mississippi if I have to jump off the bridge.
Maybe a riverboat and a Tom Sawyer hat in there too. . .

Hey, Sandy:

A spare tire ??? With your slender build, you better start eating more fast food and ice cream before the trip..

On a serious note, find an auto parts store or motorcycle shop and pick up a quart or two of Motul 600 brake fluid, then hit dollar store for a few turkey basters. The clutch fluid problem is no secret. Best have a back up with you.
When I traveled long trips I used 3M green or blue painters tape over the spear and hood emblem and above the headlights to save from chips and bugs.( peels off very easy when you get home). Where you are traveling, the bugs are the size of humming birds.
Have a safe trip. Can't wait to see y'all and the Blur in Maggie.

My thought Cary is see if there is a scenic overlook by the Miss. river and get a photo of the R with the river in the background. Then go stick your toe in it. lol

Hey Cary,

I grew up in DFW, so say hi to Bob and everyone for me! In that case, Longview, TX, makes more sense for the night. I know you will enjoy the comradery of the Fanatics that you meet along the journey!
