I'm the poster-child for the locked threads. Every time I say something that offends GM, their product, someone here on the board, etc, my thread gets locked. One of my IDs got banned another disappeared due to technical problems. Administrators here think that I really hate the SSR since I had plans to sell it for a profit but changed my mind once I got to drive the beauty. So I am usually considered as a traitor. The truth is that I love the SSR in general concept but have issues about the power, marketing and GM treatment of us loyal customers. If we just kept praising the SSR and GM, this site, as mentioned by another here, would be the most boring site ever.
I appreciate what the owner and the moderators of this site have done for all of us. But you have to realize that these kinds of boards are all over the Internet. I literally belong to over 20 with different subjects (5 of them are car related). The lively ones are usually the ones that the members can freely post their ideas and opinions. Once again the owner has the right to do whatever he wants with the site but keep in mind that the life of the board comes from the members. If there are no members, the board would be useless. By alienating members due to strict censorship, you will achieve that in no time.
No one is for profanity and abuse of the other members. The abusive members should be banned and extreme profanity should be erased since it takes away from the usefulness of the site. But to close a thread or erase a post because someone tried to express themselves by printing @#$% instead of printing the real curse word is taking it a bit far. Worse than that is to close or erase a thread because you don't agree with the subject matter even though there is no profanity involved. You want to ask members not to discuss politics? FINE. Ban political slogans in a a very political/election year? FINE. But remember you can't ban everything or people will be bored. I like to think that we are all of friends here and can discuss other things than just the SSR. This happens on other boards too, people come to discuss one thing they have in common, but talk about everyday life issues too. But again that is the choice for the owner to make, I'm just making suggestions...
Keep up the good work but try to be a bit hands off and let the members share their ideas. We are all adults here and all have heard a curse word or two. I doubt anyone would be really offended. If you are easily offended maybe we should have a "easily offended, stay away" segment so some of us potty mouths can communicate.
Again, please don't chastise me for my post. I am not advocating the use of the F word or any other profanities. But closing my thread because I joked about " I hate this car" in my title was a bit too much. There were more than one member who wanted that thread closed. Ridiculous if you asked me....
