Ok, I just purchased an 04 Ultra Violet, The dealer is installing running boards. Apperently there are two types: Painted or Satin Chrome? I know this is probably a personel choice, but do youguy's have an opinion on which looks best? Appriciate your help.

We have the satin silver on our 2004 Ultraviolet, and they pull the wheels, door handles, etc. together - makes all the satin silver look brighter. I bet painted would look awesome too though....I can see I'm not going to be much help! :lol

I've seen several examples of both - in my opinion, if you've got silver wheels OR a silver SSR go with the satin chrome, if you have chrome wheels go with the body color.

Satin Vs. Chrome

Just my opinion here...

I think that the satin accents looks great with any one of the SSR colors. However I also think that the chrome is an awesome compliment to any SSR too! So when I was able to get my order to include the chrome wheel option, I was elated because I felt that the Chrome wheels really does set off the silver nicely.

Don't get me wrong! I do LOVE the look of the satin finish even though it is a BIG pain in the
to keep clean. It does tie in with the whole theme of the retro look when you have the boards, wheels and trim having all the same finish.

PS but when I saw the chrome wheels in motion I couldn't help myself from

As you can tell by the different opinions , it is all your personal taste , and I agree with BlastfromPast , but you are making the right decision in having the boards put on , the SSR looks incomplete without them.

I don't have an SSR yet - but will as soon as the Vette is sold. I've been confused on the choices of running boards but think I figured it out now. Silver ones cost $745, painted to match ones cost $1400 - right? My SSR is going to be Silver. so why would I want to spend an extra $700 to have them paint silver over silver?? Seems like a redundant question to me, but most of the silver SSR's I see in dealer inventories have the expensive boards. Is it just me, or this a way to tack an uneccessary $700 on the price? Actually, I'm not sure I even want the boards - they seem like they're kinda in the way to get in & out of the vehicle, and seem to always hit me in the back of my calf area. Comments from owners welcomed...

Get the boards!!!! - I think they complete the retro look of the SSR - they are also a key to saving your rear fenders by keeping rocks away. I'm surprised at the price discrepancy - need to check that out further. I thought the boards would be very close to the same price - double the cost?? doesn't seem right.

Thanks for the comments - I had wondered if there was a functional aspect (rock chips) that I should be taking into account here.... Flassh - check the window stickers for the distinction in running boards. One type is listed as "integrated running boards" @ $745. The other is listed as "body color accent package with running boards" @ $1400. I can find no mention of the more expensive choice in the Chevy website, but noticed it when looking at window stickers of in stock vehicles in my area.

HI Bklue6T9,

Did you notice that there are some tubular side steps too?

Just my opinion here, the reason I didn't get the running board put on:
1. I am short and I seemed to be stepping further over them to get in.
2. They did hit my legs and I would't want to get dirt on my leg or clothes from them
3. The SSR isn't high off the ground. My Tahoe has them because I need the extra step to make it easier to get in.
4. Personal taste were I didn't like the look.

OK - that makes a little more sense, if it's the body accent package.

I checked the 05 brochure - The body accent package includes the colored running boards, color keyed auxiliary gauges, colored engine cover insert, body colored bed strips, in addition to the wood strips.

The black SSR gets satin chrome cargo area bedstrips.

I was at first grateful not to have the running boards until I noticed how the rocks were chipping away at the rear fenders. Went out and got them and no more rock chips on the fenders. They also help keep mud off of the side of the vehicle. They are well worth the cost and you can put them on yourself in 20 minutes. Just use locktight on the bolts so they don't come out on ya later. They are very functional. Yes, they do get in the way of the calf part of the leg but like I said, they protect the paint.

My slingshot didn't come with running boards. I ordered them through my dealership at 10% over cost (which they will do for any member of this club) and I believe I paid about $750 for my body colored ones. I don't believe they're painted, however, they just seem to be solid colored plastic, or whatever.
