List of dealers who did not intend on selling the 2003 SSR at MSRP:

R.K. Chevrolet, Virginia Beach, VA
Colonial Chevrolet, Norfolk, VA
Kerbeck Chevrolet, Atlantic City, NJ
Pellegrino Chevrolet, Westville, NJ

Remember these names next time you go to buy a vehicle.
I visited plenty more dealers who said that they were going to sell at market rates, but I never got a price from them, so I didn't list them.

Now that the 04's are starting to come out some of dealers are willing to sell 03's for MSRP, the problem is they weren't before. As far as I know most if not all of the dealers in the Lansing, Mi area were selling over the MSRP, kinda of sad being the SSR is made in Lansing. I called a few of those dealers today and asked about the 04's, none would give me a firm answer one way or the other.... looks like the bottom line is if they can get more they will. As many have said before, shop around and you might find a dealer worth doing business with.

More for the Hall of Shame

Contacted all three Knoxville dealers during a business trip mid December.

Reeder Chevrolet $4000 Over

West Chevrolet $5000 Over

Beatty Chevrolet $10000 Over.

I discussed EBay pricing (had the information with me showing that bidding was stopping short of MSRP, and anything with a starting price over $45000 was getting no bidding at all) but they would not adjust pricing.

As an aside, still tracking EBay. I could only find 2 that have sold in the last two weeks, both with 1SB package. One sold for 43994, the other at 45900, both under MSRP. Jpete33, (Chev dealer in California) who had bought several in the low $50000 range in November/December is now stopping in the $45000 range.

With over 30 auctions finishing with Reserve Not Met in the $42000 - 45000 range, someone actually has one on EBay with a starting bid of $62500, for a 1SB with no running boards. Not doing his homework very well.

have been in FL for two weeks and still haven't seen any other SSR's, except on lots. Locals have told me that FL dealers want 10,000 over msrp and aren't getting any takers. Good news is we get 20-30 people asking about the car every day, bad news is (read good news)

Eastern PA most are $5000.00 over :cuss

My dealer in Allentown PA has promised $1000.00 to $2000.00 off (but I've been long term customer).
This just proves they can if they want to.

SSRs in San Jose

The one at Carl Chevrolet is out front elevated on a turn table.
I orginally order my SSR from COurtest Chevrolet and when it came in they wanted $25K over MSRP. I told them to keep it. I went on the internet and found one at Billings Chevrolet in Milpitas and bought it the next day for $5K over MSRP (I didn't think that was too bad considering). I've had my red SSR for over a month now, I've shown it in a car show, a professional photographer asked to photgraph it, which we did on the apron at Moffet Field (great photos). It is just about the greatest experience I've ever had and my SSR is fantastic.

For Canadian SSR buyers

In Canada, the gouger is not the dealer, but GM Canada itself. US MSRP multiplied by the currency exchange rate of 1.30 will give you the equivalent MSRP in Canadian dollars. GM Canada does the math and then adds on $20,000. That's the window sticker amount, and the posted GM MSRP in Canada. Until they wake up, I'm not biting, as much as I'd love to own one.

I've spoken with two dealers, and while they're mildly embarassed about this, they know they'll sell out the first batch.

Similar gouging on Corvettes.

"I GUESS THEY ARE WHORES"

I RECENTLY WENT ON E-BAY AND A DEALER "TONY PELLEGRINO"
LISTS A 2003 SSR FOR SALE , NOW $6,000.00 ABOVE MSRP,
I SENT AN E-MAIL ON ITEM 2435804212--AND ASKED WHY HE
DOESN'T SHOW THW VIN # BUT LISTS IT AS 00000000---
HIS REPLY TO ME IS AS FOLLOWS : "HOW MUCH ARE YOU
WILLING TO PAY FOR VIN#'S 26 TO 1000?1001 TO 2000?
2001 TO 3000? 3001 TO 3300? I CAN GET JUST ABOUT ANY-
THING AND WILL AWAIT YOUR RESPONSE."

WELL TONY, YOU DEFINATLY SOUND LIKE A WHORE, IT'S
ASHAME THAT IN FACT YOU STATE THAT YOU CAN GET ANY-
THING--- IT LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT CHEVY MAY HAVE
SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE PRICE GOUGHING THATS BEEN
GOING ON, IT'S A GREAT VEHICLE AND IT DOESN'T NEED ANY
TARNISHING BY UNSCRUPULOUS DEALERS, POLISH UP YOUR
ACT TONY!

BY THE WAY IF CHEVY HAD PUT IT OUT A $60,000 MSRP,
I STILL WOULD HAVE PURCHASED IT, WITHOUT A DOUBT,
BUT I DON'T LIKE LINING THE POCKETS OF SCALPERS.

Hi, Tycoon.

I hope you went back to the dealer that ripped you for $7500 and told him the same thing - he's in the same league as the rest of the whores. He also lied to you about how many were being built, and counted on you not doing your due dilligence.

But please - don't make it seem like there's a lot of boneheads out there who would pay another $15000 for an SSR - it's already stretching the limits for those of us without unlimited access to funds, and it's way over the price GM projected a year ago.

The last thing we need is for GM to think there's a ready market of multi-millionaires panting for SSRs at any cost.

There hasn't been one sale over MSRP on EBAY for the last month, and the bidding on SSRs with reserves has backed off to where a lot of them are now stopping in the mid to high 30's, and the rest are stopping in the low 40's. The open market is working the way it should. The initial frenzy of "I'll take it at any cost buyers" has been satiated, and the sane buyers are seeking out MSRP dealers. It'll be interesting to see where prices go when there are another 5000 available by spring.

:cheers

contacted by dealer this week

I WAS CALLED THIS WEEK BY THE CHEVY DEALER WHO DID
IN FACT RIP ME OFF FOR $7,500.00 OVER MSRP, HE WANTED
TO KNOW IF I RECEIVED A SURVEY QUESTIONAIRE FROM THE
PEOPLE FROM CHEVROLET , HE THEN SAID MAKE SURE YOU
DROP IT OFF! , I HAVE ON ORDER A HUB CAP BECAUSE WHEN
I TOOK DELIVERY OF MY SSR ONE WHEEL WAS DAMAGED, I
ALSO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE BLOW MOTOR THAT CON-
TROLS THE FAN OF THE CLIMATE CONTROL, THAT ALSO IS
ON ORDER, I'VE LEARNED IN LIFE THAT THERE ARE "TWO
WAYS TO SKIN A CAT", NOT TO GET MAD BUT GET EVEN. I
INTEND TO REACH THE HIGHARCHY AT GM AND MAKE SURE
THEY ADDRESS THE TACTICS USED BY DEALERS SUCH AS THE
ONES REPORTED ON THIS SITE. FROM A PUBLICITY STAND-
POINT IT CAN STIR PUBLIC OPINION AGAINST GM, IF THEY
CAN SPEND MILLIONS OF DOLLARS ADVERTISING THE SSR
AND A START OF A NEW REVELOUTION, IMAGINE IF THEY
COULD SHOW THERE GOOD FAITH AND REIMBURSE ALL THOSE
WHO WERE SUCCERED INTO PAYING OVER MSRP SUCH
AS MYSELF . NOTICE I SAID SUCCERED, THAT DOESN'T MEAN
THAT I CONSIDER MYSELF A SUCCER, ONLY THAT I WAS THE
VICTIM OF A CON, BUT BELIEVE ME THE BATTLE ISN'T OVER,
AND I DO HAVE A GAME PLAN, IT ISN'T ABOUT THE MONEY
AS I CAN AFFORD THE LOSS OF $7,500.00 IT'S ABOUT THE
PRINCIPLE, I VOW IF I RECOVER ANY AMOUNT THAT I WAS
CHARGED OVER MSRP TO DONATE IT TO CHARITY. I HOPE
OTHERS JOIN THE REVOLUTION!
