The SSR is such a unique vehicle I fell in love and broke down and ordered one from my dealer. Will have it in end of March or early April, depending on when the factory restarts production I guess. This will eventually become my daily driver replacing my 1992 Z28 Camaro which is still running strong at 175k on the odometer.

I strongly urge anyone who is thinking about the SSR to order one soon, who knows when GM will shut this down. The SSR is practically a custom car for a select group of people. (I like it that way). I do kinda feel bad that GM stuck their neck out producing this awesome car, and then sales didn't meet their expectations. Kinda will discourage production of future cool cars like this.

PS. I'm getting a Silver 05 1SB, already planning on stereo, speakers, Sirius, and anti-theft GPS tracking device.

Good luck!

Do you still have the option to back out of the deal? If you do, then by all means do it. Buying is an instant $15,000 to $17,000 loss!!!!!! Take that money and do something to make your wife happy. Maybe the results will be as long lasting and do a hell of a lot more good! '04s with a couple thousand miles are going for upper twenties and maybe some at $30,000. Yeah, I am a sore loser! :cuss

Yes Zaniossr, most of us already know about your feelings that you harbor inside and you have shared them with us on numerous occasions. Certainly, I too feel bad about the current low priced new and used SSR markets right now. However, I don't share the same deep resentments or negativity you are carrying inside of yourself.

To me, it appears that you only want to warn potential buyers about their "better choices" to make with their money than to try to help them out in selecting a great deal in a SSR. Instead, you might want to try to encourage them by telling them how they could save thousands and more when buying a 03, 04 or 05. I believe that method would be a much more constructive way to help others out.

Happiness isn't always based on how much money we can make or "don't" lose is it? Most of us will try to relate or focus on what is "good" or "best" about our ownership experiences. My wife and I talk about how extremely "happy" we are with our experiences and how much fun we have had with owning one of the "greatest" retro vehicles ever made!

Right on Marc

Well said Marc. I bought my 05 and haven't looked back yet.... Resale value, purchase price, blah, blah, blah.

All I know is I have never had a more fun vehicle in my life, all kinds of people talk to me about it where ever I go, and when I am away on business travel I can't wait to get back home to drive it.

I find myself watching the weather, praying for sunny, warm days so I can go topless.

I don't know that there is any more fun to be had. If you want an SSR, buy an SSR. Enjoy it, and don't look back.

no way

My Dealer had plenty of '04 SSR's to choose from, and I could have saved 10k on on a 04 vs 05, but I want the big engine. I keep my cars forever, so the cost over 15+ years is insignificant. I want what I want, no compromises, no regrets.

Tony,
I feel exactly the same way. Since I just retired, I won't be putting many miles on the SSR and will also keep it for many years. I want to prolong the fun for a long time. I have owned many great cars over the years and can honestly say that this one has given me the most fun. It makes me feel good just to look at it. And when I drive it, it's a whole other experience. I know it's only a vehicle, but it gives me a kick.

Bought it

bought min in Jan '04 when there was still a major frenzy going on. Probably paid as much over sticker as anyone on the site. Haven't regretted it a bit. It was a year after my wife of 25 years had passed away and had a lot to do with me resurfacing. Whatever money I "lost" was a whole lot cheaper than a "shrink".

Hey not to mention the best friends anyone could ever meet. I have met several now, including Zaino and having more friends is never a bad thing. I will have my SSR forever and that and the smiles it gives me is worth every cent we paid.

To me this is the greatest vehicle ever. There's a lot of vehicles that are fun and fast but not a whole lot of fast vehicles with lots of cargo space, and how many retractable hard tops is there with lots of cargo space? I can also go through a driveway with out scraping or hitting a parking bumper with out scraping. As a every day driver the SSR is real practable for me and so much fun to drive.

I agree

Here here,

I'm with most of you. I bought mine because I loved the truck, the looks, the style, the potential. I'm not one to trade every year or even every couple of years. I'll have my baby for along long time, such as I have my other vehicles:

72 Gran Torino cobrajet--24 years
77 GMC-----------------------21 years
78 GMC-----------------------20 years
80 GMC JIMMY---------------18 years
90 GMC SPORTSIDE--------15 years
02 GMC ex cab--------------- 4 years
03 SSR-----------------------1.5 years

and still counting on all of them. Had an offer around christmas time from a collector for the 72 of mid 50 g's. Guess what? I didn't sell, because I love the car and have yet to see another one like it. After I hit 60 I may dwindle down a few. but will probably keep the SSR and the Gran Torino Cobrajet.

Love em, drive em, enjoy em.

First I have to say I might have been wrong when I said I wouldn't buy a 03 or 04, I will see, They all look the same, The best looking truck you ever seen or you wouldn't be here, We are all alot alike, I am a Xracer, Stock cars, Drags, Motorcycle flat track and drag so most of us want the push you back in the seat hp. So most want the 05's, Now I talked to two good speed shops, One said if you do the same to the 05's as you do to the 03's and 04's the most you gain is 5 hp, The other said no the 5.3 will out run the 6.0 with the same mods, If this is true you can get a 03 or 04 and add supercharged, custom exhaust and a computer tune and you have a SSR that will blow a 05 away and cost less, I am talking to a couple guys now about have my yellow 04 tricked out

There is an '05 Silver (1sb) 6 speed here in St. Louis that just came in. Get a dealer transfer and don't wait for 2 months :) :)

As for buying/selling when the price is right....That like trying to time the stock market..Most of the time you will lose. Go out and get what you want and don't take to much advise on your wants/$$$$ from others.

I bought my '05 6 Speed because that is what I wanted. I paid the extra dollars over the '03/'04s sitting on the lot because that is what I wanted for my daily driver not because I could get something cheaper.

BTW.....Hope you don't have to wait 2+ month for your NEW RIDE :)
