:reddevil Well my SSR overheated yesterday on the way home (I-30 @ 5:00 pm). I dropped it off this morning and the report is - fan failure. There were no replacement fans in DFW area, so there shipping one tomorrow. Has anyone had this problem? I got a Trailblazer rental and on the way home I pass a red SSR going south on Loop 12 under I-30. Blonde female driver. I'll update on the progress tomorrow.

Did a search on FAN FAILURE and found the attached note...........

Glad to read the threads about the heating issue with the SSR. I noticed yesterday that my 2004 was running over way over around the 225-235 mark. I just drove it from Terre Haute to Sacramento and had no problem. Seemed like it always ran around 210... Even in the hot Oklahoma, Texas weather. Came home and yikes it appeared to be over heating. I parked it in my driveway, opened the hood and noticed that the electric fan was not working.... More yikes! I opened the fuse panel and took the fuse from the ABS system and put it in the fan system. The fan came right on! The fuse appeared to be ok so I put it in the ABS slot.... Could be coincidence that the fan came on but seemed strange to me. Will drive it tomorrow and see if I still have the over 210 problem. Whats with these guys with 210 anyhow. What ever happened to 180? Glad to have warrantee but sure do hate the thought of warping something with that extreme heat.... Guess they know what they are doing.... But be sure to check to see if your fan is working.

My SSR runs consistently at 205 degrees when underway at highway driving speeds. This is in the notoriously hot Texas weather. When idling at stoplight the temp tends to crawl up to about 237 if you sit in one spot long enough. Per the dealership the second electric fan is supposed to kick in at around 237 degrees. The first fan kicks in at a lower temp approx 215 to 220 or so. They tell me this is normal for the aluminum block as it dissipates heat much better than cast iron block. Still makes me nervous though when it gets above 210.

James - same thing happened to me - overheated waiting at a train crossing. Posted it sometimes back. I remembered another post about a year ago when I took mine in and told them to check the second fan. Sure enough that was it. Since it's been fixed, I don't run much over 215 tops.

Will the update be on the truck or the blonde??

Well, Day #2, Still no fan. The word from the dealer is that it will be here in Irving on Monday, that would make it Day #4. My problem is that I can order a computer from China this afternoon and it will be here in Irving by 10:30 am the next morning via UPS or FeDex guaranteed. Do you think I should inform GM management about this shipping service that seem to know nothing about.?????????????????????????

Ah Day #4. Got the SSR back today with a new fan. Temperature maxed out @ 210. Great news. But the loose window antenna nob that I thought could be super glued back into place is now a major problem. GM issued a bulliten stating that if the antenna exhibits a major color change in the imbedded glass, a new antenna is warranted ie new windshield. I am now waiting for it to arrive from Lansing. The story will continue.............................

My service advisor there was not an offical bulletin, but the discolor antenna was good enough for GM to OK a new windshield that is due to arrive Thursday or Friday at no cost to me.

Well the saga has an end. Chevy dealer call yesterday to say the new windshield had arrived. I drop off the SSR around 9 and called back at 3. Dealer said it was ready and the broken antenna was functioning properly. I picked it up at 4. NO charge replacement and they washed, waxed, & buffed the black beauty for free. American service with a smile. Thanks Frank Parra Chevorle!!!!!

P.S. the overheating problem has not returned. It has been pushing 99 here for the last week and stop & go (mainly stop) traffic the water temperature pushed 225, but never went pass. Once on the move temperature settled to 210.

Interestingly, my wife has an 03 Chevy Trailblazer with the 5.3L V8, same engine as the 04 SSR and her fan failed Sunday and was fixed yesterday under warranty. Turned out to be the electronic fan clutch for her truck.

Glad to see it all worked out in the end. No how about that blonde... :lol
