This is an inquiry to ask if leaving the roof partially open (clam shell look) will cause damage to the mechanism and if so is there any way to beef up the failure points?

The hydraulics will bleed off and let the top move. This will give a code that will lockout the system if it moves far enough and then to clear it you will have to move it by hand. :cool :cool

Can this cause any premature wear or damage? I have re-set the top by hand and it's easy THX

As long as you arn't going to drive it around that way no lasting damage should happen. As noted if it's far enough open, it may slip farther open under it's own weight.

I've left mine part way open for hours without it slipping down or having to manually manipulate it.

It happened to one of the 03's at Irwindale that was parked in front of me. We had to pull it up by hand but it began working as soon as we did. :cool :cool
