Does anyone have pictures or information on how the passenger air bag cover is attached? I took the truck into Car Toys to have the XM radio hooked up and they didnt seem to seat it back into place an it is not flush with the dash anymore. Either they damaged it or didnt put it back in place and I would like to fix it. I will not take it back to them since I had to hasstle with getting two door dings fixed after my last round with them. They are idiots.

As someone who just removed the passenger airbag, I can tell you that it is a very difficult process. There are a total of 4 bolts that hold it in place. 2 are accessed from underneath and point straight up. They are the easy ones, a 10mm socket and they are off. The other two are very difficult, they are located on the top sides of the unit and face away from the firewall. I had an extremely difficult time getting them off.

As far as getting the dash off without removing the airbag, all I can say is that the installer forced the dash panel around the airbag panel. I would not reccomend doing that and that is what probably happend to your install and is why it does not appear flush.

The shop manual clearly describes the steps required to remove the airbag.

BTW, I had to remove the airbag to install a new stereo.

the cover for the airbag is attached from the factory--it does not come loose until the bag deploys--there is no removing and reinstalling the cover--seems like your installer didn't know that, or he would have removed the airbag prior to taking off the dash pad

I would only have a professional mess with that cover. A lot of firefighters get very seriously injured from the explosives that make the airbags blow out the way they do! That is some very dangerous stuff in my opinion.

Airbag

Never mess around with a airbag componet until you have unhook the battery cable and let 15 minutes past bye. Air bags hold a slight charge after disconnected. You do not want one of these to go off with you hands on it. If it would go off it most likely will put your hand right into your face. :boxing
