Hi everyone. We had booked to do the Pyrenees 1000 mile rally a few years back but it kept getting pushed out due to Covid 19. The area is north of Spain snd south of France.
We try to do at least one proper road trip every year. This rally is a Time speed & distance which some off you might be familiar already. We have never tried this before. The objective is to cover a set route at a average speed. Arrive too fast get penalties arrive too late get penalties. There are many classes depending on year and engine capacity size.
I have had a problematic year with vehicles,
my 1980 G Wagon has developed fuel leaks, fix one snd another appears.
My 1990 Toyota Landcruiser has had an engine swap to a 1UZ-Fe out of a lexus. Bumped the hose power from diesel 86 bhp to 260bhp. V8 . But I think I am bursting rear axel differential out of it !
Do plan was to bring our Reliable SSR. Got Serviced snd it passed its annual road certification test, it mentioned front brake pads were low psi I thought get them changed. Mike sent on pads to me. This lead me onto front callipers being seized so had a panic getting some new ones in. Thanks to Lee who organised these for me.
then a few days prior to departure Ifound a new issue with oily gunk in water expansion tank.
That stopped me in my tracks with taking the SSR to Europe. Have to figure out when I get home what to do with it. Mike suspects transmission. Cooler has piped a leak into the water coolant.
so took my Daily work driver a BMW X5 M50d.
