...and for your contacts at GM.

The wife and I spent some time at the Fan Zone in the Chevrolet tent at Richmond on Saturday (good race, BTW). The one thing that stood out about their display vehicles was that every SSR on display was a yellow automatic. We have seen the same thing at other venues.

Why yellow? Why an auto?

I'm not trying to stir up the Redline vs. Slingshot vs. Smokin' sentiments here on the board - we all have our favorites. I'm just curious if it is a conscious corporate decision to only display yellow automatics for the SSR. We know that almost every color looks good on an SSR. Why not one of each or something similar?

Any enlightment would be appreciated.

P.S. The wife said maybe the other colors are selling better so they have extra yellows to display but I doubt that is the reason.

I think

Yellow and then red will draw people from the farthest distance across a large field. Yellow is a standout. No thought on the automatics other than they can use anyone to drive them in to place, and stick my limit some.

Rebel May be Right

Rebel may be right. At the 2004 Los Angeles autoshow. They had an Aqua Blur and a Redline. The redline and aqua blur (to a lesser extent) did stand out amongst the sea of vehicles.

  • Yellow is the easiest to spot?
  • Yellow looks like a big quart of oil (Pennzoil) :)
  • Yellow is BOLD!
  • Yellow is FAST!
  • Yellow looks its best while up on a car carrier?
  • Yellow Automatics are easy on the passangers while they stand up for the intro laps LOL

Well diggs,

Dang if I know, so I will have to ask ... cause I sure don't know why! :lol

Hey diggs,

Here is "one" quick reply back that I have recievied so far to your question:

"... Availability, it lines up with the ads and the Chevy revolution program (yellow SSR) and they are all 2004 model year not 2005 or 2006. :) "

I will have to see if I get any more replys...

Follow up on Yellow #2

Hey Diggs,

I just got another reponse back...

"... I assume you are talking about the vehicle that is on the NASCAR rig that goes from race to race. If so, basically it is a factor of what was in our inventory in January when the package was set. The set up goes from race to race and once it is set, we leave it alone. Even though we make them, we still have to pay for them too.

... For 2006 I would most likely update it with a two tone and chrome package.

Have you dropped that top yet??

I might hear some more thouhts on yellow SSRs soon...

Then how can they be an automatic like Diggs mentioned earlier????
At Daytona the only SSR was the red and white pace car. There were no others!

There are a number of SSR Pace cars on the circuit... I can't tell you which version he saw.

Here are a few other shots of the red-white-blue SSR Pace Vehicles.

Dingbat,

Could you please clarify your question for me? There are a lot of yellow 04 automatic SSR's around. Why do you question that the ones Diggs saw were yellow automatics?

Wait a minute...

I'm not talking about the Pace SSRs. I'm talking only about the display vehicles. The particular ones we saw this time were in the Fan Zone at the Chevrolet tent. There were a couple of Corvettes and a Cobalt SS, some Impalas, a Monte Carlo SS with the 5.3 liter engine and quite a few Monte Carlo NASCAR show cars.

There was also a display set up for XM radio that had, surprisingly, a yellow auto SSR next to it. I think that was actually a part of another display for the Xtreme Malibu and the Xtreme Equinox and the Intimidator SS truck. The display also had cut aways of engines and a couple of other vehicles that slip my mind right now.

Marc-
Diggs said that all he saw were yellow automatics. In your email reply they said all the SSRs were 04's. 04s and automatics don't go together??????
First I had two replies back from people within GM... one stated that the earlier ones were made in 04 thus they would be automatics. I don't know if that is true with other pace cars built later on. Thus, there might have been some other newer ones made in Jan 05 that were built differently than the 04's were. :confused

Yes diggs, I believe the one comment I got last was off your orginal topic and we started talking about Pace Vehicles instead of display ones. If you reread the first reply you will see why he said that they were using Yellow SSRs in their display vehicles. Theme for Chevy Revolution ... remember the tractor trailer shots... etc?
