guys, I'm looking for info on cam swap. Can you pull out and replace the cam with the radiator pulled out, or???

I'm in need of someone to re-program the ECM to the factory settings. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate.

thanks, Jimmyd05

Basically, in order to reprogram an SSR ECM back to stock configuration you need:

-the original calibration files for your VIN- available on CD for years up to 2007 (if using a GM program) or by paid download from a subscription service

-a PC that can run a software program (such as GM TIS 2000) to manage the files and the transfer

-a professional scan tool (such as a GM Tech 2 or a Tech 2 emulator “Tech2Win”-Tech 2 for Windows) that interfaces to the software program and to the vehicle to transfer the files and reprogram the ECM

Other, more recent professional scan tools than the dated Tech 2, e.g., by other manufacturers, also offer reprogramming options.

Other options: There also are companies that can perform bench programming of ECMs given the vehicle's VIN. They advertise this as a service when selling refurbished ECMs. You might consider contacting one of those companies to ask if you could send them your ECM to be reprogrammed to stock. Or contact a (GM) dealer to have them perform the reprogrammnig on your SSR.

Did they have to have the Car to do it or can you take the ECM only to them for reprogramming

A dealer would need a bench setup to program an ECM to a VIN off the car, otherwise reprogramming would have to be done with the ECM installed in the car via the OBD II port. Most dealers are equipped to do the latter with a dedicated PC, GM software and Tech 2 (or equal).

When off-car programming is complete, and the ECM is reinstalled, you (or the dealer) still have to perform the vehicle theft relearn process before the car will start. Then you will need to perform a crank position sensor relearn process to complete the installation.

Swapping the cam will require one of the following, very decisive, actions:

1) Pulling the engine
Or
2) Cutting a semi-circle out of the upper body crossmember that is in front of the radiator.

Mike
