Went to DMV today and changed my registration from commercial to roadster for cheaper registration. Had to bring in title and registration and have SSR inspected showing it had a top covering bed. The SSR for me is my fun vehicle, I have a work truck for hauling things and every day use. I just wanted to post this in case someone might want to do the same.

Hey Buzz: Great idea! I tried to get mine registered as other than a truck when I brought it in to Calif., but no dice.... They said if it has an accessable bed then it is a truck....

Did you save much in fee's? If so, I might have you give me the DMV address in PH and I will drive down there to have the registration converted..... Always lookin for someplace to go in my SlingShot!

I don't Know how much I'm saving yet, I just didn't want to give Arnold any more. The lady asked if the top over the bed comes off and I told the lady, any top comes off. She then asked what it was and I told her it was a Super Sport Roadster. She then said it can be classified as a roadster. [top was down when she inspected it] and thats how it all worked out.

Sounds like you got lucky with an employee that didn't know all the rules.... Shhhhhhhhhh!

You shouldn't feel bad about sending Arnold lots of money... The state needs it to continue to function until Arnie finally gets spending in check.... But then, hell, if our housing market continues to escalate the way it has the realized windfall property taxes should bail us out sooner than expected....

Keep the rubber side down eh?

It continues to amaze what one can learn from this forum! Commercial registration, no way...YES way! Actually had to go look at it and sure enough it says commercial...don't know how many trucks in this family previously but NONE were registered commercial. Didn't DMV use to "ask" in CA? Guess will have to go to Barstow and show them this is NOT a "work" :ssr

That's my thoughts also. It will be interesting to hear how you make out on the price of insurance. As it is cheaper for a truck than an auto here. I pay less for the SSR than for the wife’s PT Curser. (And my truck plates black/white the car plates for me are blue/white)For once things worked out well for me. :thumbs
