Well I thought about that, A guy has a 05 GTO 6.0 6 speed that wants to race my truck for the fun of it, Unlike the Mustang ver SSR that went on for weeks this is tomorrow night at a NHRA track, It is a nice track as it has two sets of trap lights, One at the 1/8 and one at the 1/4 mile, It is a test night where you can come and see what it will do, Also unlike the other mine is a 04 5.3, He works at a speed shop and has a few things done to the goat but I don't know what, I know it has a K&N, SuperChips, But I think that is about it, I wasn't going to go but the wife and a few friends said why not, The GTO owner said so what if you lose it will be fun, I looked him in the eye and said I never race to lose, Now he doesn'r know what to think, All I know is it should be interesting

Yes I know the differences and it is a two thing, One of course is the fun and in the back of my head I would like to know what one will do on the track, Also safe is always number one that is why it is going to be on a NHRA track not a back road some place, I have raced many years, I know the GTO 6.0 6 speed is one of the meanest cars on the road, I also know nothing is a sure thing, If the SSR has any chance at all I know what has to be done, Might just be blowing in the wind but time will tell

Well hdflstf I don't look for that to happen, He is a kid around 24 but he has been racing for a while and is good at it, What I need is a lot of tire spin from him off the line and cut a better light, What ever you lose off the line takes a lot at the end of a 1/4 mile run to make up for it, But then again it has been a long time since I have been on the track so it will be I hope he doesn't beat me to bad in the lights and smokes the tires a little to much

Agree..

No Knocking the SSR but with you r competition for this race, it's really his to lose. Just be sure you do everything right. And don't forget to have some fun.

Something I always tend to forget is the traction control button. Nothing ercks me more than standing on it and have the engine start to choke.

You can drop about about 75 or more pounds by removing the tanou cover, 2 bolts & a elctrical plug and leave the tailgate down.

Also Manually shift it! Let us know how you did.

I got in late last night, I did have a lot of fun, It has been 20+ years since I have run on that track and all I can say is they have really put some money in it, As soon as I got up to the line I could see there would be no tire smoking on this track, But to what happen, I got there and he wasn't there yet so I run a guy in a T-Bird and like I said it was a long time and I cut a .5 light, The SSR felt great at 60 feet and at 1/8 mile, 8.9 sec. 79MPH but then it just felt like it died, It was a awful day to race, Hot and windy, 1/4 mile was [email protected], The guy the goat owner works for said the last time they run he was running 13.90's, Well the time come he said he changed tires and go ahead and run a friend of his and he would make a run later, So I run his friends 12 sec. rod, The first run I didn't Manually shift it so this run I did, It was shifting at 5500 the first run and I shifted at 6000 on the 2nd run, I cut a better .3 light and was side by side of him at the 1/8 but he beat me by a couple cars at the 1/4. Better [email protected] but still felt dead after the 1/8, Anyway I was setting in my car when he made his run, He cut a good light and turned a 14.4, He came back and said his car wasn't running right so maybe next time cause he didn't want to run it the way it was running, In other words even heads up he couldn't beat the SSR cause it was cooler and my next run was going to be in the 13's. Like I said I had a lot of fun and to beat his time made it even better, Have to watch that racing bug and get you even after you get older, Well that was the way it come down so what do you think

Well houtex it has a supercharger on it now, You don't think the 04 5.3's run in the low 14's high 13's do you but what I don't have is a boost gauge and something is not right, I have stock air clearner, Stock computer tune, Stock mufflers and it gets 21 to 23 MPG on the way to race it. It is nice to have a good NHRA track with tuning night to go to every now and then but I started racing when I was 13, Stock cars, Cycles on dirt and drag bikes and drag cars, Stock, Super Stock, M/P, I quit at 35 when the money was going faster than me, It was fun but the SSR is a toy to play with and it was nice to hear peple say dam I thought them was just to look at, I never thought it would run like that

Double-L: The "something is not right" COULD be the "torque management" or "abuse management" routines built into the stock PCM.

The SSR has an electronic throttle ("fly by wire"), and that makes it possible for the factory to program it in a way that denies you full throttle whenever certain restriction limits are exceeded. i.e. even though you are applying full PHYSICAL throttle via the pedal, the PCM is factoring that down to something less if, for example:

- Calculated torque exceeds a preset limit that is designed to protect the powertrain (Yes, I just read a Delco article dated March 2000 in which they proudly idscuss the advantages of this in apresentation to automotive engineers, and yes, they DO "calculate" the applied torque based on airflow, fuel system, and engine rpm)

- Traction control engages

- The PCM detects an abnormal input signal, and decides based on its programmed criteria to reduce power to a "safe" level

So, the question is: When you got your supercharger, did the reprogramming of the PCM that was done at that time somehow defeat (all of) these controls, or not.

Humm JimGnitecki that is something to look into cause like I said it felt super strong and would run with the 12 sec. hot rods for a 1/8 mile then it was like when you just run out of air is the best way to put it

I talked to the guy that put the charger on and he said no he did not defeat the controls cause he put one on for a guy and it blew the trans up and he was just on the street, He wouldn't take the chance and HD-Fatboy even with a supercharger and more you can't even break the tires lose on this track, All in all I had fun, The SSR can hold it's head up, I mean to run with a 12 sec. race car for 1/8 mile and flat out beat the time of a 6.0 6 speed LS1 GTO even with a supercharger isn't a easy thing to do with all that weight, A lot of people left with a diff view of the SSR, If anyone has anything to add that might help it even more I am all ears, I just ordered a green filter for it and thinking of flowmasters and putting the laptop to it

Double L, I run NHRA Div 6 Pro in a 12.75 dailydriver 62 ChevyII on DOTs, but otherwise street trim, it's running 400HP but is built to handle 500HP and with hundreds of 1/4 mi passes it's never whimpered, but that's the kicker, it's over built for what it does and putting a 5000# beast into the low 14s is an accomplishment, but it's one with some serious consequences because our beloved SSRs aren't over built like that. I figure that at a minimum you're 150% of design. To run the times you got your 60' must be around 1.90-1.85 and that's a huge hit to the drivetrain of something that heavy, if you're going to get back into this kind of playing, having the drivetrain upgraded would be an excellent idea.

That's gotta be a blast to push 13s in an SSR
