Went to Huntington Beach to visit with friends Sunday - Wednesday this week.
Two great days, then torrential rain but the truck did great the whole time there.
Returning to AZ, 1 mile from my house right before the exit off of highway 40 at 12:30 am hit one killer pothole and blew the right front tire out.
I limped the truck down the exit ramp to a shopping center parking lot. Inspected the tire and there was a complete square hole missing on the sidewall.
Luckily the rim wasn't bent..!

Called AAA and they was there within 10 minutes, Had the truck hauled home.
Next day called Discount Tire right at 8 am and they said they only had a Goodyear tire in that size.
The manager said the was 20 people at the door and 7 tow trucks waiting to offload cars.
Seems I wasn't the only victim of the potholes from the recent rain.

You will notice in the 4th picture, there is a thick foam in the tire for noise deadening. (Continental calls it "Run Quiet")

Glad you weren't hurt and the only damage was the tire and the hassle of dealing with it. Very fortunate the wheel wasn't damaged, even more so that the center cap didn't depart the area. Probably a lot easier to find a single cap than single chrome...................................

I agree with @azcactii! Glad you weren’t hurt and the tire was the only fatality. I ride motorcycle too and a very good friend of mine hit one of those in AZ and she’s a quadriplegic now. Lord knows those pot holes are killers. But I’m even more impressed with the AAA response time! (y)

I was surprised with the AAA response time, ask the driver if I woke him up and replied yes.. I said Sorry.
I drove the truck up on his ramp truck as he didn't want to use any hooks due to low frond end.
Almost to my house I asked if he can disable the backup beeper to not wake up my neighbors. He said he could.
I tipped him $20 bucks for the inconvenience.

I have since ordered a replacement Continental tire from Tire Rack.
I will source a Chevy 6 bolt rim and have the Goodyear tire on it as a backup when traveling.
Crazy 350 mile return trip and a mile from my house that happened.

They say most accidents happen within 2 miles of your house..
Better than in the middle of the desert at 12:30 am..

You were fortunate not to have accident or rim damage.

Goodyear tire, originally designed for our truck (4780 lbs.) has hardness rating of 4 out of 5.

And you can get them in OEM sizes again. I put on a set a year ago.

Just an option for your truck.

Admittedly I don't see a lot of tire blowouts. Gotta say, though, that the appearance of the damage to the sidewall is not only strange looking, but catastrophic. I must echo comments about glad you and your SSR were otherwise OK.

Some tires have blowout protection warranty so you might check to see if there is any money kick back on that tire. Just a thought.
