While using some Zaino glass cleaner on my baby I notice a small vertical scratch in the glass on the inside. I just took it to the dealer and he thinks they can buff it out. Not sure if that will solve the problem but either way check you windows. I know several have had problems. Other that that love the car.

Doesn't matter if it comes out!

Because it will just do it again. It is a design flaw. They have no "felt" to protect the glass. A good (I said GOOD) window tinter can fix the problem. IF he doesn't know what you are talking about and isn't already aware of the problem (not just a Chevy problem, others too), then take it to one that is aware! Bitch to Chevy like the rest of us. Let's make them recall the problem and fix all of them.:boxing

I called GM customer service, and took mine to my dealer after a horrible scratching sound one day when My window went down. Priority Chevrolet is getting me a new window, but that is not really a fix, as it will happen again, but it is all they can do at this point and a lot more than most dealers are willing to do. New window and panel goes in this Friday! Getting close on finishing my graphics. They should be on in a week or so. The file is around 4 gigabytes in size!!!!!!!!!!!! Photoshop nightmare!!!

To whom do we b-tch?

I went to my dealer and asked him to report it to GM. He said that they had a method in place for that sort of stuff and said he would do so. I just hope one of those engineers calls me just as the surveyor mentioned. I certainly will tell him.

I mentioned window scratching to the phone rep during my "GM interview" a week ago. I've got them on both windows. My thinking is this - I can live with the light scratches at this time, and I'm waiting to see what GM comes up with before I go in and get them replaced under warranty. (no "buffing them out," either, dammit.) if GM hasn't an answer by summer, I'll ask TheTintShop guy for a Colorado reference, if he has one.

scratch on glass

Very curious where you found out that there is no felt in the door?
I have the same problem, & I have made a claim with my dealer, & their response was that CHEVY denied the claim to them. There is BIG WIG at the dealer who also has the same problem, so the dealer knows I am not lying. Chevy said the problem was from the "aftermarket" tint applied to the window, some B.S. of course.

Please advise the info source for the no felt info, & any info of what dealer fixed it, & what they are doing, contact name & dealer would be great.

I now have Chevy Customer care working on it, & I have a claim #, with your help & any others maybe we can get something done as far as a "recall".

That is the nastiest word to a Manufacturer there is, however a necessity, & if handled now, can save themselves millions from having to do it when they start mass producing it.

Any help would be a GOD SEND.

Thanks, & enjoy that SSR!

Can you tell me if your car was fixed & if so, by what dealer. I have the same problem, & now have the dealer telling me it was because i added tint to the car. I have submitted a claim to Chevy direct too. I have a claim number, when talking with them, they asked for more info from us SSR FANATICS, can you help?

Thanks.

I have not had my windows tinted and one day heard that terrible scratching and scraping sound when the window went down. Priority Chevrolet in Chesapeake, VA got me a brand new window and the part that raises it up and down. So far, no problem. Priority has been extremely consistent and knowledgable on repairs on my vehicle.

My Dealer is Leo Hoffman Chevrolet in the City of Industry, CA.91774, Great Service.
They ordered a new Driver's window, eta 2-3 weeks, Service MGR. was well aware of the glass issue. I don't have aftermarket tinted windows and hope this is not a issue for other SSR owners.

We learned this from a member of a tinter's group. They had already experienced this problem with other makes before the advent of the SSR!

me too

i have had the same problem on both of the SSRs ive had. they both had after-market tint though. there must have been about 50 cracks on each window. i had it removed and my factory windows didnt crack at all and still havent. thats kinda weird.

But they will! Just as bad wiper blades will haze your windows. Also there is another thing to consider. Sand (or other debris) will sink into the felt so as not to create a scratch. If it gets between the hard rubber and your glass on the way down or up, boom! damage is done.

Today the dealer replaced the Driver's Side Glass, window works and looks fine.
Be sure to test the electric mirrors before you leave, they forgot to reconnect the switch correctly, it took them 10 more minutes to correct this.

I've had my 96 Impala SS since it was new. It has soft felt on the inner and outer window seals. Guess what, the drivers door glass has lots of scratches. I wonder if thats really the fix or the cause??
