Scratched windows

Just curious if anybody has actually come up with a real fix for vertical window scratches, I've seen alot of posts, but still not sure what to do It appears to be the seal on the very top of the door. as that is the only thing that the window touches where it is scratching. My dealer ordered new seals, maybe when the old ones are removed I'll be able to see what's doing the damage.

The only fix we have had to date is the window tint has been replaced four times; at no charge. I noticed today the scratches are on the outside too!

A good tinter can apply a felt material to the seals which will prevent the scratching. Too bad the General left the felt off. You can bet that he has had prenty of bitchin' because of this little goof up!

Hoping this helps all of our comrades in the SSR arena.
Yes everyone is noticing scratches. Tint or no tint it is still a problem.
The GM goof ups tried to make the windows so tight to prevent the wind noise, that they neglected a small piece of felt on the hard rubber piece that pushes up the window called the "scraper". The fix is "said to be" to have a custom window tinter add a thin tape from I believe 3M, called felt tape, it is very thin, & it sticks to the "scraper" & then the felt on the window side touches the glass. This is the same problem that Lexus & Mercedes has on thier cars with hard convertible tops. Mine is being done next week, check back with me by next Friday & I will let you know how it works. We are unsure until we remove the tint, if the scratches are under the tint or not. Chevy will replace the glass if it is scratched, & they will reimburse me for out of pocket costs to replace the tint, still trying to get the money from them for the application of the felt too. They are cheap, don't want to commit to me, because they know it will escalaate from me to everyone else. If I have my way, I will announce to the entire world, how they screwed up, & how they need to be accountable for it, or maybe they would like a "total recall" on all of the SSR's.

Re Scratches

Thanks for the reply, now I have two more questions. First do you have to put the felt on the outer scraper as well as the inner, and second, do you have to pull the door panels to do it right ? I've seen some posts saying that removing the door panels screws up the window regulator. I don't see how this is possible, but it's hard guess what GM is doing

THANKS AGAIN.

I think you just did. :thumbs
Window Scratches

I just noticed that mine are all scratched up too! I have no tint. Thanks for the tip on the felt. I'm scared to have the dealer replace the windows and screw up something else. I think I'll just wait awhile. . . . . :mad
I had the window tinter apply the felt and it seems to be holding up well. They did remove the door panels and so far I havent noticed any problems. It's been three weeks.
Scratched Windows

I have the same problem and went to my dealer and had him order me a new pair of inside channel weather strips . I thouugt maybe mine had debris embedded in them as they have NO felt on them . Well to make make it short, GUESS WHAT ?? the new strips that came have a new part # and they also have F-E-L-T on them. Evidentally GM figured out what we've known for awhile.
Are you teasing us...

...or did you just forget to post the part number?

Give it up, dude. :jester

P.S. I "fixed" mine by trimming the lower strip off and covering the place where the felt should be with a self-adhesive strip of velcro, 1" wide and, of course, I used the soft side (would that make it the female half of the velcro?). I did it when I added speakers about 2 months ago and no scratches at all. I had the tint replaced the next day and it looks perfect.

Not Teasing

I knew somebody would ask about the PN when I was writing it. The parts just came in and I stopped quick after work to look at them to see if they really were upgraded I'll call them tomorrow and see if I can get both part # the old and the new so that you can tell which is which.
How interesting and very exciting for SSR owners. Maybe GM is listening. :)
inner seals

I went to my dealer to get the part # of the new window channel wipers for everybody. While I was there I took them out to compare them & make sure there were the right ones ! YOU GUESSED IT OMPLETELY WRONG, so back to square one. I also checked with a local glass co. and they do have the self adhesive window channel felt for this purpose, so this is probably the route for now.

Does anybody know exactly how to remove the door panels without damaging any parts.

THANKS AGAIN
I had it so bad I got rid of the truck and got a C-6 Vette
Scratched Windows

I found the product that is made for this purpose. it's called MOLE SKIN it comes with or without the self adhesive backing ( you want the self adhesive type ) I then had my service manager print me the door panel removal procedure, just in case there was something special that you had to watch out for. there's nothing tricky about it. I took the panels off, cleaned both wipers to remove any grease wax or anything that would prevent a good bond. The mole skin that I got came 2'' wide, so I cut it into 1/2" strips which worked out fine, had the windows re-tinted and hopefully we're back in business.
If anybody wants all of the fine details or more info. please let me know and I'll do what I can to help you out. It's a simple project once you know what to do, probably about an hour. :seeya
Window scratches

Im a little confused! Is there an upgraded window channel with felt available from GM parts that we can order through our dealers? Or is it best to retro-fit the ones we have on now with felt?

Scratched Windows

I would say fix them yourself NOW if you don,t want the problem GM may or may not come out with a new design, but if you want to tint your windows now and don't want , it's simple.Even if you don't intend on tinting it will save the windows.
If you want the door info. that I have send me an E-mail with your address and phone and I will FAX or mail it to you. Also let me know if you have assess to this MOLE SKIN product.
Hope I can help you out !!!

GOOD LUCK
