Sequoia / Kings Canyon SSR Run

Anybody interested in a Roadster Run up thru the National Parks?

This will happen in April 17th...

Kingsburg's Car Show is on Saturday April 16th - so I'd like to arrange a gathering of SSR's for a drive thru the Sierra mountains the next day...

I'm making arrangements (since I'm on the Car Show staff) to have a section marked off for SSR's) - this is a pre '72 show, so - we'll only be able to display. (Or perhaps have a friendly competition amongst ourselves)

The Kingsburg Car show starts on Friday night (the 15th) with a 'cruise night' and dance - so if anybody wants to come early - let me know, as I'll put together a BBQ for Friday.

The plan for SUNDAY the 17th is to leave from Kingsburg - travel Hwy 201 to Hwy 198 and up thru Three Rivers to Sequoia. Traverse the Sierra on the Generals Highway and return to the valley on Hwy 180. An alternate (lower) route is available should there still be too much snow on the ground in the National Parks...

Contact me for additional info - and I'll be updating this post ocassionally...

Count me in Kwhopper. I'll let you know later when I'll be coming up, but I'll be there for the Sequoia / Kings Canyon SSR Run. That is, unless something unforseen comes up. Hope we get a good turn out. Our Palm Springs run was a lot of fun and we met a quite a few SSR owners. Looking forward to it.
I'll be there to ! I'll be there for sure on Saturday. Keep me informed. :thumbs
Wish I could go...

Sounds great, the wife and I will plan on making it. We will be coming from Redding.
Since I'm involved with the Chamber of Commerce in Kingsburg - feel free to PM me a mailing address and I'll send local info out well in advance - hotels etc...

I'm at [email protected] if you want to shoot an email there...

Time to plan

Just wanted to keep this thread active - and add some incentive to come to Kingsburg in Mid April.

I have ordered so much stuff from ChevyMall, that when I asked if they could help out with some 'door-prizes' for the SSR owners that show up in Kingsburg for the SSR RUN - I rec'd a quick reply that they would send me some items... So, I'll (along with the Kind folks at Chevymall) will be GIVING STUFF AWAY!

How does a poker run sound? I've read some interesting tips on poker runs - and will see if I can incorporate the ideas into the drive...

Keep me posted so I know how much Tri-Tip to get. :thumbs

Some shots from last years car show...

I posted before that I would be there but didn't know exactly what day. I looked at our calendar today and saw the my wife had marked in Fri., Sat, Sun. and Mon. for the Sequoia / Kings Canyon SSR Run, so it looks like we'll be there for the whole thing. Where is the cruise on Fri. night being held and what time does it start? I was born and raised in Fresno, so I'm looking forward to this event. Also looking forward to meeting more SSR owners. I'm getting that billet aluminum license plate frame for my birthday, so I will have that on when we come up.
The cruise on Friday is in downtown Kingsburg. Seems to me that folks start showing up around 6pm or so. We meet next tuesday night (18th) to get things going on the car show part - so I'll have more info then...

Man am I jealous - I lived in Long Beach for about 11 years and spent a lot of time in Sequoia. Would LOVE to see a string of SSR's headed for Lodgepole. :cheers

See the attachment in my earlier post for additional hotels. But, the Holiday Inn (Swan Court) is located across a parking lot from a Chevy (Liberty) dealer in Selma - about 5 miles north of Kingsburg on Hwy 99...

Look forward to seeing a bunch of SSR's! Biggest California gathering yet????

Home town

My wife and I plan to be thier Friday night and stay the weekend. Attended the show back in 99 & 00 with my '57 Nomad. Great show. For anyone else, the Swedish Inn is a very nice place. I grew up in Kingsburg (left at 15) so looking to a homecoming. Duane

(Kingsburg is about 35 miles past the peak on the far right of the image.)

Wonder how much snow will be there in April???

Found this tidbit at the national Park Site:

Note: The 16-miles of road from Ash Mountain to Giant Forest includes 130 curves and 12 switchbacks. Due to this, there is a vehicle-length advisory for the 12 steepest miles within that stretch.

And:
The Generals Highway climbs over 5000 feet from chaparral and oak-studded foothills to the awe-inspiring sequoia groves.
