Light Dusting of snow...

Attached is a current view of Sequoia...

With clear skies forecast for the next several days the snow visible in the photo should be gone. But, I am sure that there will be shaded areas OFF the road that will still have snow. So, next weekend we'll decide on the route.

IF we decide not to run thru the National Parks - the drive to Three Rives is quite nice, and with a minimal amount of backtracking, we could divert back down toward the valley and run up Highway 245. At 2 to 3 thousand feet lower than the Generals Highway - snow runoff across the roadway will not be a problem.

Either way - a great drive will be in store for us!!!

Current forecast for KINGSBURG on Saturday (Car show) is for a high of 77 - perfect! Sunday is forecast for 74...

And this is what I found...

On the scout run today...

50% chance of rain lingered over into today. Took the SSR anyway. :)

Nice drive - no traffic. Went up as far as Three Rivers, and came back to check the lower route. I tried Dry Creek Road TO Hwy 245. (An old favorite motorcycle road.) Found these nice wildflowers...

SSR images too...

Well, the 50% chance turned into 100% for sure RAIN!!!

Dry Creek Rd connects into Hwy 245 at Badger (the road now has a center line) :eek

Continuing north past Pinehurst, the elevation tops out at a little over 5,000. Well, the rain has now turned into big 'ol snowflakes. Such a beatiful site (I must be from California!) to see... No snow sticking on the road - so the drive wasn't too bad - I did turn the TC on...

Couple more nice images to add to the collection...

Where we'll be...

For those heading to Kingsburg this weekend, here's a map of the downtown area.

I'm off work at 1:30pm Friday (If I go:  ) and will be in Kingsburg by 2pm.
I'll head downtown shortly thereafter. I'll have an ice chest w/ soda, so if you all want to bring munchies/snacks?? The burger shop should be open - if not there are a few other places to eat...

As far as clean up of your SSR's, I will help set that up if needed. Theres a paved spot w/ water behind the fire station we could use. I have Mequiar's stuff, and I'll have it handy. I've got a few extra terry towels too...

If you don't have my 824-.... cell-tele # - PM and I'll get it to you if you want to call in when you get here.

I just wanted to post a reply to let you know that all your preperation and planning is very much appreciated and you obviously are one squared away guy.

I'm leaving Santee (San Diego) about 8:00 AM and hope to be there somewhere around 2:00 PM, check in at my motel (Best Western Colonial in Selma) and meet you at that location on the map.

Thanks again,
Bob (SSR71Blackbird)

My guess is the full run will be at least 6 hours.

The shorter route would be 5 or 6 hours - depends if we run up to Three Rivers and back down to Hwy 245.

You know me and the camera - I have several "group photo" locations I'd like to shoot at - but, will play that part by ear.

Very Late Arrival

Susan and I will be leaving Saugus, better known as Santa Clarita, at 7:30 PM on Saturday nite. We have a room at the Swedish Inn. My question is, Will there be a place to clean up my bug filled car on Sunday morning? I'm sure we will run into many along the way. We are looking forward to meeting you and the rest of the group. See ya Sunday

I figure we'll meet for coffee and/or breakfast in Kingsburg on Sunday morning. (Country Waffles - or Starbucks)

There are a couple of car washes in Kingsburg, or you can come by my home and use the concrete pad by my garages.

The Country Waffles is ACROSS the street from the Swedish Inn - and I do think that the Swedish Inn will have a place to claen up the SSR too...
