Uhhh, okay - so the dealer service yielded a lot of TSBs being addressed and such, and there are a couple more things to do when parts come in, but today when I went to lunch I noticed some issues that were generated BY the service call!

- Weatherstripping along inside of A-pillar was buckled in the middle. Dealer's svc dept replaced it, now it's falling out! - the adhesive is plenty visible as the stripping bows out due to gravity, away from the A-pillar, when the window goes down - even when the window is up, the molding doesn't sit fully against the pillar like it does on the passenger side. Svc guy says the molding isn't supposed to be *held in* by adhesive, rather it fits into a clip/groove of metal and that the adhesive is only to seal up gaps and screwholes and such.

**Note: adhesive smeared on both driver and passenger side roof, and passenger side window.

- Bulkhead at the top of the rear window, at the roof (forward edge of bulkhead is at roof's separation seam), flaps easily when touched - I do not know if it did this beforehand, but it doesn't seem right. Seems as if not attached at the lower corners, only at the roof edge.

- There was a leak at passenger side roof seam, has been replaced with wind noise. Svc Dept claims water leak is gone, but they noticed wind noise at highway speeds. I didn't hear any wind noise beforehand, now I do. They've got a molding coming in for that I think.

I already have to take it back to them when the rest of the parts they were working on come in, anyway, but the kicker is this dealer is an hour and 15 minutes away, not practical for me to keep doing this, should I have more issues like this.

Now, is there a chance that another dealer can take care of this stuff at no charge? (I mean it is a brand new 04, under warranty)

:confused

You have the right to take it to any Chevrolet dealer that you wish....not just your selling dealer. GM does not like you to cross warranty brands, so taking it to a GMC dealer would not work out, but any other Chevy dealer should be able to help you out....Granted, the selling dealer will be more driven to make you "completly satified" and a non selling dealer may be somewhat unenthused to work on a vehicle they did not sell, but should not refuse to work on your SSR...
I have even heard of dealer refusing to work on vehicles they did not sell but have never seen this myself to verify. Bottom line find a dealer that you are comfortable with and just let them know you bought from another shop for whatever the reason was...and that you want to begin a service relationship with
them, they will do all that GM empowers them to do to make you happy enough with them to buy from them next time around...good luck and enjoy... :thumbs

Thanks - I'm never sure about that kind of stuff.

FWIW, my selling dealer is *seriously* trying to make everything OK, they're not screwing me around or anything, it's just that they're too far away for quick trips.

Dooes anybody see anything obvious in the "repairs" that the dealer might have missed or something, in order to have the followup crap happen?

'nuther dealer problem

We bought our '04 from a dealer who is 300 miles plus away from where the car is now located. There is a dealer closer who checked it over when we had the dead battery issues a few months back. Last weekend we noticed that somebody had dented in the air cleaner in two places - showing off the engine compartment and ugh! what a discovery! Selling dealer says bring the thing in and they'd determine if they would replace it or not. This is not a convenient thing to do...300 miles in the other direction to 'check it out'? We are going to try to take it to the dealership that checked out the battery problem....selling dealer said it'd be better if we took it to them, tho. Irritating to be sure!

Service Issues

Contrary to what other on this thread might say, GM's policy now is that you can take any GM vehicle, (except Hummer), to any GM dealer foe warrantied repair. This means that you can take an SSR to a Pontiac dealer or a Cadillac to a Chevrolet dealer. Been that way for several years.
Mike :cool

PS: Does not mean that they have trained techs for what might ail you, but check before you drop it off. :flag

I do work at a GM dealer, yes you can cross warranty repairs for other GM
brands, however its is supposed to be for the, "emergency" repairs only...not normal things you could schedule with a Chevy dealership. As well as the SSR is a Chevrolet vehcile only, so the techs may have acess to the repair info, but have not been trained for the SSR's unique assemblies. So yes we can warranty repair
a Pontiac or GMC etc. but is only for emergency use only. I will say though, not all GM brands have the same equipment, the Cadilac has equipment and systems that Chevy does not have, so the Cad. dealership personel would be more familier and more likely to have the parts, training, etc. to repair your vehicle in a timely, correct fashion.

I might be wrong, but to me 300 miles to my local Chevrolet dealer is an emergency.

For sure....long drive, hope you don't have to see the dealer much....do you have a closer Gm dealer of some other brand?

Rental or Wait?

I don't know if they do this but have them give you a rental if they have to keep it overnight. Let them know that driving back and forth is not practical for you. Ask them to work with you so that the next time you bring it in they can schedule the time to get all of the work accomplished (have all the parts, etc.) while you are there (You may have to stay awhile. Customers waiting get more attention than those who just drop off-I think).

Yeah - they gave me a 2005 Impala (crap!) for the 4-1/2 days they had it last time - no charge, loaners for life at this dealer.

But I think next time it'd be a better bet to just bring it early and wait around all day so I know what's being done and how.

Priority Chevrolet in Chesapeake, VA has been outstanding for me. They have repaired the top and a variety of other issues free of charge, no hassle, and always gave me a good loaner to use like a Silverado or Equinox. They also charge a heck of a lot less to mount tires! All the tire specialty places wanted $69 per tire to mount my new ones from tirerack.com, but priority mounted them for $15.90 each.....quite a savings. What helped them immensely was the fact that I bought the Helm manuals for the SSR and always have them in the truck when they service it so they have an immediate reference tool to use when doing the work. :seeya

Who knows a good dealer that has experience with the SSR for repairs. The one I purchsed it from is horrible. Anywhere Ventura county or Santa Barbara county, California or vicinity. TIA.

TRKNVET,

Ues the search function and look for "Dealers Who have Experience with SSR's " There are some dealers listed in this post who other members recommended.

SSR in Victorville

ECurtis from Victorville.
Thanks for the reply. I will check that out. I will be driving through Victorville on Saturday so if you spot a silver SSR with chrome wheels, it is me. Thanks again
