Does anybody out there know if the SSR bolt pattern is the same as the Trailblazer? I'd feel alot better with some sort of a spare when I'm on the road.

Just installed a trailer recptacle on my SSR ("that should have been installed by GM") and discovered where the rear frame is designed for a spare tire. It is very simple " if anyone can show GM that the battery can go somewheres else", the missing spare tire can be mounted right where it was designed to go.

I suggested 20 inches, so that the limited slip differential would not go CRAZY having two different sized tires attached at the same time. The front end won't care!

For all of those that feel naked driving without a spare or run flats, our good pal fiftysnut may have a great and logical solution. Sometimes the solution is staring at us when we look under the rear valence. I for one do not feel a need, as a biker we travel all over without a spare. On the other hand I could be tricked if it was clean and easy.

Yes you do see a place for that spare tire that the trailblazer has mounted in the same spot. BUT..... with the dual exaust on either side of that location unlike the trialblazer the rubber from your spare will melt and you don't want that funk getting inside your $50,000 dollar truck now do you? :nonofiftiesnut said:

I bought a rim off of a trailblazer ( spare 17 inch salvage :thumbs ) you have to come up with a compromise between the front 255/45/19 and rear 295/40/20 the front being 28.0 inches high and the rear which is 29.3 if you go to a tire size conversion chart it will show you which sizes fall between these two heights. For instance a 225/65/17 is 28'' and a 205/70/17 is 28.3''
Don't forget a lug wrench and a scissor jack !!!

I haven't even looked at that possibility, first would the spare fit if the battery was not in the way, and second where would you put the battery if that were the case. Maybe I'll take a look at it Tomorrow and see if it looks like it's even an option. :confused

As a Harley rider, I ride all over the country without a spare, but I keep fresh tires on it every 8K miles and just forget about it. This runs about $300.
But, I have a feeling, I won't be able to afford to do that to those monsters that are on our SSR's!

Hmmmmm....
On our Fatboy, the rear tire was changed at 10K miles and I'm still on the original front at 17K. The front still looks good but I'm guessing I'll have to change them both at 20K (this spring).
I hope no one takes this wrong, but I'm amazed that folks are getting so worked up over not having a spare on their SSR. You have different diameter tires on the truck, so you have to make a compromise. Make the wrong choice and you can ruin your differential or rub the crap out of your front fender.
I'll stick with the fix-a-flat and inflator. I'm considering getting an inflator kit and losing the spare on the GTO for weight savings.

Buell needs not a spare.
Bikes and SSR seem to go together.
No spare on either. I have 50,000 miles on my Buell S3T :thumbs and am only able to use it for 6 months. Spare tire does not even enter our minds.
I think that my mileage will come down on the bike and go up on the SSR. :boxing

You're right, it's a tough decision, after we got our SSR the bike didn't get used as much as it should have. :agree

The "spare tire" discussion is one that everyone has their point of view. You simply need to do what makes you feel comfortable when driving. The tire fix-a-flat kit in the SSR will work in cases where the tire has a small/medium leak. It won't help when there's a large hole torn into the tread/side wall.
The Toyota Sienna has this same discussion going on too. The front wheel drive Siennas come with a mini spare, but the all wheel drive does not but it does come with run flat tires. The rear drive shaft runs right through the spot where the mini spare is mounted so that is why the Sienna AWD comes with run flat tires. After getting some miles on the run flats, many of the Sienna AWD owners are finding out that the run flat tires last at most 15K to 18K miles (on the Sienna) and they're not cheap to replace.
The SSR (with run flats) would be a nice option, but as the Sienna AWD owners are finding out, it's a long term costly configuration. I drove my motorcycles without a second thought of a spare, only because there was no way to carry a spare.
A SSR with a mini spare that when inflated to a "min" level would have a similar diameter to the fronts and inflated to a "max" inflation would have a similar diameter to the rears would be a good option too. We're talking about a solution to get you off of the road and to a place that can fix your flat. My 350ZR has different sized tires on the front vs. rear but it still comes with a mini spare.
I still think the SSR should at least come with a jack/lug wrench, so you can remove the tire and take it somewhere to repair the flats that cannot be temporarily addressed by the fix-a-flat kit.
