SSR Tires-GM to re-design?
I was told thru the dealership that services my SSR that GM is re-designing the SSR tires. My SSR has been in for service three times for vibration problems in the steering column. One tire was found to have a flat spot and was replaced. However, I am still having problems with vibration in the steering column. On the last service visit they told me that they had called GM and that GM is fully aware of the problem. They also told me that GM is re-designing the tires and that there my be a possible re-call in late summer of 2005. Has anyone else heard of this? I hope it's true.

It comes in a genuine plastic, snap top storage bag. :reddevil
I bought one to put in my little motorcycle trailer. The spare tire was pretty well worthless without it. A small bottle jack gets the tire up in the air.
They sell a 4 ton jack for a couple bucks more.
Too bad there is not more room to store these. Maybe something for long trips. Personally, 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet Customer Care) works for me.

Why did "fiftiesnut" install a hitch receptacle when there is one on every SSR? There are many reasons why there is no spare, most of them centered on overall vehicle packaging required by the styling, and the different diameters and how that interacts with the ABS and Traction Control. If anyone has vibration problems that tracks vehicle speed, it is most likely relatled to tire and wheel balance.

I have had two custom trucks since 2000 (96 S-10 with custom 3 link rear suspension and airbags, and a 94 S-10 Blazer with a stereo and air tank taking up all of the cargo area) with no spare tires with no problems. I don't even carry any fix-a-flat. I replace my tires probably a little sooner than needed to prevent any problems, but I really don't worry about it.

My spareS consist of a full set of wheels/tires on standby in my garage. I found a great deal from an SSR owner that swapped out his satin wheels for the chrome option and with the price that TireRack offers - I couldn't afford NOT to have a full set on stand by.
Yeah - it does me no good if I'm not at the house when I get a flat, but just the knowledge that I have them is good enough for me.
Plus - if/when I ever smack a curb - or with this rain lately - hit a major chuckhole - I'll have a 'clean' wheel to slap right on... (FYI: I paid $500 for the 4 wheels...)
As far as 50's nut - it seems that the dealer installed option - wasn't... I've seen at least one other post that stated the tow package was still in the box - in the bed of the SSR when he took delivery. Kinda like the gauge package that was late for the 03's - that should have been a dealer installed part. (Oh don't get me going on that again...) :cuss

The spare is soft hanging under the box. It is not a concern to me. Maybe in the old days on dirt roads with miles between life forms, with out cell phones and road service and heavy traffic passing by everywhere. I would worry about a good spare. 1988 till 2005 I have yet to need a spare. The rim is probably rusted in place under there by now. Watch what happens to me now after this post! But really it will just be a cost of time for help to arrive.

Ditto! On my first road trip to Florida, I happened to pick up a roofing nail from the hurricane damage and had a hole not even the Goodyear Dealer would plug or patch, so good old Walmart came to the rescue with a hole plugging kit for 6.95! It now resides in my storage compartment under the tonneau!Kingbee said:

The grill I made out of sheet metal, the top piece is made out of 8 different pieces, the rest are made out of 4 pieces. As for as lowering it thats tricky. It's 3" in the front and 5" in the rear. The front you have to flip the ball joint over and make a new A arm. Then make a new shock stand 1 1/2 shorter. But the benifit is you wind up with the stock spring so the travel is stock. The back has the frame C notched to clear the axle housing then I usued air bags. the thing handles like a slot car. Its a blast on onramps

Ken, hope I didn't hit you the wrong way when I mentioned your scooter being red and not black, but it looks like everything you have is black!

No not at all! I do have a black one also, the red one was closer to the door. The black one really does look nice behind it. if you are interested I will throw the black one on the trailer. I am building a SSR theme bike that is 9 1/2 feet long.
