Hey All,

I'm new to this forum but not new to the SSR lifestyle. I purchased an 04 SSR about a year ago and traded it up for the 05 SSR with the Vette engine, which I've had for the past 5 months. It's an outstanding vehicle which I appreciate having everyday whether I drive it or look at.

With summer just around the corner, I was thinking how great it would be to have some protection for the interior cockpit when the roof is down. Something to keep it clean for those days when you are in and out of the house /driveway taking short little cruises throughtout the day. Something to protect against the elements such as leaves, dirt, pollen, or worst bird crap, without having to put the top up and down for each stop. So I made a couple of calls around to some car cover manufactures to see if they offered or were willing to make a cockpit cover. The only company that seemed to have any interest was Cover King of California, the same company that produces the full cover for GM, which some of us already have. I spoke to a woman named Chrissy who returned my call and asked me for some more details into what I was looking for. I explained that it would be cool if they could make a cover that would enclose the cockpit area having the cover wrap around the front windshield to the back of the headrests on the seats, held on by elastic at the bottom of the cover. I also mentioned to her that it should be pretty easy to fabricate considering that they already have the measurements and pattern from the full cover to go by with some small modifications to make. I told her about all the enthusiastic members on this forum and other forums wanting more accessories and that they should have plenty of orders to fill. She will be getting back to me in the next day or two on whether they want to proceed forward in making them. I'll let you know how it goes. In the meantime can I get a show of hands on who would be interested ??

thank you,

Remember those old Triumphs, MG's, and Morgans that had the snap in or zip in black leather covers that would just cover the cockpit but not the windshield? Some would even have a slight hump over the steering wheel. True thrie seats were below the body lines and ours are not. Those covers could even be unzipped on just the driver side so it could be driven while on too. I remember them. Just thought I would throw my two cents out there.

Hey ricardo,

Show us a photo of what yours looked like ok? I might be interested in one if it was offered in a silver color. I love my black SSR cover howerver I think Black might be a wee bit hot for a SSR if it was sitting out in the sun for a longer period of time.

Just my $ .02

But simply pushing a button and having everything clean, safe & secure is what this vehicle's all about. Why carry around a cover that would be more work. Then you'd have to get out & store/retrieve it from the back and install/remove it?

Hey Marc,

Yeah, I totally agree. Black would not be the color of choice. Actually was thinking of that cool grey color / material.

By the way, when I purchased my full cover for the SSR from GM they gave me a choice of colors, either the black or grey color. I went with the grey to keep it cooler.

thanks for your comment.

I"m Inclinded to Agree with Kingbee

I'm inclined to agree with Kingbee. Seems to defeat the purpose of the hard top and is one more thing to carry. If you want ease of raising and lowering the top once you leave the vehicle I say see if there is a product that will enable you to raise and lower the remotely. I am working with the person who installed my remote starter with additional alarm to be able to raise and lower the top remotely. The plan is to be able to depress and release a button on the starter/alarm key fob and have the top raise or lower. Of course, I want it programmed such that the car is running when I do this (so the battery will not be depleted). We are schedule to get it set-up sometime next week. I will let you guys know how it works out.
