Dear Troy and Marc:

I want to thank both of you for your consistent and strong support of the Chevrolet SSR—especially for taking the time to poll your members. We were quite pleased to see 320 responses to the simple question: “What are your top five SSR suggestions or items you wish the SSR had?” What an impressive response!

I have reviewed the list of items you provided to me and will share the complete list with both the GM Program Execution Team and the GM SPO Accessory Program Development team. Be aware that many of the items on the list are things we have already brainstormed, and some may make it, and some may not. I have divided up the list into areas of the vehicle and have indicated selected items on the list that are of particular interest to Chevrolet. They include:

Exterior:
It was great to see such interest in paint and color options. This is an area that we continuously pursue to stay on top of current vehicle and fashion trends. We have and will continue to keep the SSR color palette fresh as we evolve it in future model years. Wheels and trim finishes are also items that we are interested in. Based on the survey responses, here are some examples of exterior items that received quite a bit of interest:

* Additional exterior paint options
* Chrome front grille
* Hood struts for 03s and 04s
* Two-tone paint
* Wheel designs
* Chrome handles
* Hood scoop
* Louvered hood
* Rear-deck spoiler
* Side ground effects
* Stripes like Chevelle SS
* Slide-out tray for easy bed loading and unloading
* Trailer hitch converter for bike racks, etc.

Interior:
I’m happy to report that many items suggested for the interior already are being pursued. Continuing to offer new electronics, colors and trims is needed to keep the SSR fresh and relevant. Some of the interesting interior suggestions include:

* Compass/temperature readouts
* XM Radio
* OnStar
* Additional sound deadening
* Advanced sound system (for XM, MP3, etc.)
* Tire pressure monitors
* Two-tone interiors

Drivetrain:
The SSR received substantial powertain improvements for 2005. The LS2 engine addresses the desire for more power, and when coupled with the availability of the six speed manual transmission it provides the performance attributes that many have craved. Aside from increased horsepower, the list centered around additional finishes and colors. We are looking to bring more chrome and colors to the engine compartment as well as to various suspension components. This will be done primarily through accessories, which means that they will be available for existing SSR owners as well as future ones.

On behalf of Chevrolet, I want to thank not only the two of you, but all of the SSRFANATIC.com members who took time to provide input. We do appreciate it, and find this information extremely useful as we chart the future course for the SSR.

Sincerely,

Bob Walczyk

Wow! I think it is fantastic that they have not left the 03 and 04 owners out of the loop. They stand to make a lot of money from us if they offer the things/accessories we crave. I would much prefer to get my accessories from GM than an aftermarket company, as long as the prices are competitive with the aftermarket guys. Looking forward to the hood props especially and the interior chrome options. Geat job Marc. :seeya

Hi Ed,

I agree with you 100%!!! You should have seen my face when Bob told me about the retro-fit-struts and that they will soon be offered as an accessory... man was I euphoric! Chevrolet is showing all of us previous SSR owners that they are truly committed in supporting us now and in the future! :thumbs

When was the last time....

you felt as if you were actually being listened to by the manufacturer. This small group of niche owners is paving the way for Chevy to respond to the buyer and the changes he desires. The small numbers of this group certainly have offered up a communication link to do that. :)

Great job Troy and Marc. :thumbs

Peace :flag

This is great! What a great feeling to be listened to and the response from GM is wonderful. I love the tray and soft side bags.
Yes me too! I agree with Mahcell... I can't wait to get those.

OK OK.... are you ready for the next info leak? Shhhhh don't tell anyone... but there will be six colors next year instead of the current 5. :thumbs So would anyone care to guess as to what colors they might have for 06?

Hint: Aqua Blur will be a carry over for 06. So then there will be only one additional new color If you guess the correct color I just might tell you. HA!

Ps. I was told they are already working on 08 colors! It takes two full MY years to validate a color for production.

Great Job

Marc,
I just wanted you to know, that having been associated with GM for 14 years, this is the first time I have ever see anyone associated with Mother Motors who has provided so much info to anyone other than "insiders". I tip my hat to you and Troy for the wonderful job you have done.

Oh wow… I really don't deserve all those accolades. I am just an average guy working in the big world of auto manufacturing. However, I have to admit I have been extremely fortunate to have met so many great people who work within GM, both hourly and salary, throughout my great career there. Troy Roberts and Bob Walczyk have been terrific to know and work with. Also, I am so glad to be associated with such a great group of members on our SSRfanatic website here.

Thanks once again for your kind words.

Wish List

Why not make a SSR with hardtop, no convertible, and then lighten the chassis and reduce the price of the car. I'm getting an 05 SSR despite that fact that I'm not a big fan of convertibles, and i'm not lookng forward to the roof leaks and other mechanical problems with the flip top I know will happen as the car ages.
