I was wondering where would be the best place to get 12v power for a stereo amplifier installation. I plan on installing the amp inside the bed area. Should I bother to try to access the battery box underside the car, or should I tap off the jump terminal in the engine compartment? The amp needs a 4 gauge direct connection to the battery.

Mine is in the bed mounted center. You really need to tap off the battery for the main power. You can run it through the bottom of the top area then into the back, all hidden by the roof protection. I got two free air kickers with the kicker amp and you can tell anything untill you turn it up. I also did some color matching to make it look like it was some what stock. all runs from the stock unit.

Whats involved in dropping the battery? I looked at it today on my crawler, looks like a couple of bolts. Should I put a tranny jack under it and then unbolt, or is the battery tray retained from falling down?

Look for bolts on the sides of the battery box. You should see that they run in hooked slots. If I remember right, the bolts are loosened only then the box slides laterally then pivots down and open. Here are some images.

1. remove the cover (first image)
2. disconnect the battery cables
2. loosen the side fasteners (second image)
3. lower the box (third image, see hooked slots.)
4. remove the battery hold down
5. remove battery
