Hi again

Have a dilemma... IF i can't find a suitable head unit with Navigation, I want to keep my Garmin 2620 in the SSR.

That presents a couple questions:

1. Can I wire it to turn on and off with the ignition, assuming the ashtray lighter/power socket stays hot when car is off (like all other GM cars i've had)?

2. Is there a way I can do that hardwire and retain the use of the unit's loudspeaker, which is mounted on the lighter plug itself?

3. Where and how to hide the wiring and speaker in such an instance?

Thanks!

It just seems the head units I'm looking at all have a serious shortcoming, I may have to stick with the stock HU and add an XMDirect after all.

Wait - new thread perhaps - can a C6 Vette head unit be transplanted into the SSR?

Yep, I was looking at that unit myself - It's got the shortcoming of having the fugliest interface of all time. Anybody got a real life, not manufacturer's, screen shot of what it looks like when playing an XM station? Because it looks like A55 when playing FM.

Other shortcomings?

- Pioneer: AVIC-D1 - no video input (DVD, etc); AVIC N1/2 - flip-out screen (yick)
- Eclipse: AVN series - no satellite support until this year's model, which is Sirius only

It seems they each "have it all" save for one crucial thing here and there.
