I need some input and thoughts on aftermarket exhausts.
I unfortunately got rear ended last week with some minimal damage to the body and it mangled the one side of the exhaust. :cuss :cuss
After the insurance is settled up I plan to switch to one of the 2 aftermarket systems that I am aware of. :cool plus it is a 3 week leed time to get a stock exhaust from GM!
Does any one have any thoughts of which one is better and why?

After Market Exhausts

I am also interested in an after market exhaust system. The stock system just isn't quite loud enough, and doesn't sound right to me. I've used Borla for several other vehicles, but a tech there told me that there just aren't enough SSR's on the road to merit development of a cat-back kit with true duals.

Is there anybody else that is going to build a system for our SSR's? :lol

www.magnaflow.com Advertises an all Stainless Steel dual Cat Back system for the SSR thats supposed to add 20hp. If I recall it was in the neighborhood of $7-$800.00 Anybody out there have that system on their SSR?

Can anyone please tell us if the Magnaflow system sounds better, louder, etc. than the stock exhaust? Also, is it a true dual catback system? Magnaflow's website has some sound bytes of the exhaust, but I just can't tell anything through my computer, even with this super-duper sound system I have.

Sorry to here about getting hit. Was this really a blessing in disguise? You get a new dual exhaust that you might not have gotten if you weren't hit?

While traveling through Delaware yesterday, I was about to pass an 18 wheeler when I saw him pass a license plate laying in the road and sure enough his truck lifted the plate and sent it spinning like a saw blade toward me. I swerved a little, but didn't think that I would miss it as it came toward the passenger side. I saw it go down by the passenger door and heard a loud 'ting', then saw it continue 'saw blading' behind me into the grill of a car behind me. I realized that it hadn't hit the SSR so I was relieved about that. Felt sorry for the guy behind me.

Too bad I can't always drive on a road with no other vehicles on it.

SSRcobra, I too am sincerely sorry about your truck getting hit. That is one of my worst nightmares! However, I think it is VERY cool that you're getting the Magnaflow system and will post your review for us - I am very interested in this system.

Did you purchase the standard system or the louder one? Also, what did you pay and where?

The Magnaflow lowest price now is from: SBD Muffler CO, 711 West 17th Street, Suite C10, Costa Mesa, CA 92627. Their price is $387.55 plus UPS charge. This is obviously a lot cheaper than the $729 MSRP for the Stainless Works system. Maybe it's worth it though, if it sounds that much better! :skep

I have a hard time believing that changing anything from the cat back will actually change the power of the engine. Certainly not 20 hp. The current system has the best sound we could get and still meet all of the regulations. I think we have the best sound of any current production vehicle. I am sure that some of the aftermarket systems sound louder and therefore seem better. The '05 will have duals from the muffler back and this system would fit on the earlier models but there is some modification of the hanger system.
