TIPS FOR OUR NEXT PHOTO CONTEST:

I really like the photos - but seems to me that some non-driveway photos need to be submitted! Marc - perhaps we could look into a theme for upcoming months contests. I liked the idea of a mural shot or a sign of a cool place you have been to????

Sample attached - not an entry - no voting please! :cool

Image TIPS...

I found a few tips that may help out - see the attached WORD document....

Don't think, just shoot
When you take pictures with a digital camera, you can afford to experiment and capture some of the details of your trip that you might have skipped when shooting with traditional film. In other words, when you're using a digital camera, don't think, just shoot. You'll end up surprising yourself with some great images that really tell your story. Also remember that the images that touch your eye can also touch your heart. Be aware of what really makes good times good, and have your digital camera ready to capture those special moments.

Composition

Composition is the arrangement of elements in a picture, but we are going to be discussing specifically arrangements that will make your pictures more visually appealing and interesting. When dealing with composition, it does not matter if you have a high-end digital SLR or a cheap point-and-shoot...

See attached for the rest...

The idea of a monthly photo contest is great. Some of the shots entered are definately worthy of a calender or even some sort of ad campaign.
The one thing wrong that I can see is that it is only the 11th of MAY and the entries are already in for June. At this rate we will be doing Christmas shots in July. This is fine if the object is to get a dozen pics before the end of the year for next years calender, but it seems to be pushing things a little.
Since it seems that we have a lot of photographers that have excellent pics to enter, a suggestion would be to have three or four groups of 10 photos during the month and then a run-off on the top vote getters. This would allow more photos to enter and could stretch out the contest for the full month.
just my thoughts on a great subject

Thanks dingbat... I am always up for improvements...

Here is the reason why I wanted to start June's contest earlier. It was to insure that we could post the winning photograph (June's winner) for the entire month of June. Voting would have remained open until the end of the month to ensure plenty of time for all our members to vote. Perhaps we could start another 10 entries if our members here would want to then vote on another 10 pictures. It would then require a third and final run-off poll.

Please give me your thoughts on dingbat’s supplementary ideas here which would then allow for more photos to be submitted. :thumbs

Maybe try another 10 photos?

With all the great photos coming in. I think it would fantastic idea. This way we would have a larger choice to pick from, for the calendar for next year.
So far I see there is a feeling we might want to try another 10 photos to be submitted... so I will wait a little while longer to get more input from more of our members.

Wide open

I'm not a fan of themes. I have access to a wall mural but others may not and would be left out. Call me a REBEL but I don't like to many rules and restrictions. I vote for wide open Art Freedom. And let the voters speak on the quality. Without themes we should get more variety and surprises.

I think allowing more pictures and doing a run off of the best of the best would be a good idea.

Marc-
Why don't you try to do like they do in sporting events. Make up three "heats" of 10 pics each and then do a run off with the top 3 vote getters in each heat. You could add the "wildcard" pic (or moderator's choice) if you like to make the runoff have 10 pics.
We have a bunch of gatherings coming up in the next couple of weeks. I'm sure there will be no problem filling up 3 heats a month for the next several months at least. Lets hope Troy's server can hold all of them.

Split up orginal thread to continue with more ideas...

I split this thread so we can discuss more on what we would like to see for our monthly photo contests. The original June Photo Contest with all the orginal photos are still in the orginal thread.

Please continue to give us your feed back and we will continue to review your ideas and perhaps try some of them out... and maybe have more than 10 photos submissions per month ok?

Thanks for your ideas and continued input ... :thumbs

Just thinking

Thinking ahead … If we are going to have a calendar made for 2006 we need
1- Have it in the hands of the members Jan. 1st
2- Have 2-3 weeks shipping time
3- Have it at printers 3-4 weeks ahead of that
4- Have time to pick which photo for which month and any other info to add on.
5- I think we need to have 12 good photos plus a cover photo ready for the end of Oct.

Extra photos may come in at this time, as the idea is new and fresh. But down the road it might taper off to the same people doing the submitting every month.
We may want to have a couple extra submission groups’ now, to get enough winners by Oct. dead line.

I dislike themes, as I have some ideas that can’t be used, if I have to follow a theme.
But to make up the extra photos by October, maybe have extra submission groups now and then seasonal scenes like Christmas, Halloween in those months to use next year. That would be enough themes for me.
I still like the idea of people thinking of their own different ways to pose our SSR. And posed them in many different settings. People will get out of the driveways and plan their back grounds better as they get into this and we may get some surprises.

HI Keith,

I like that idea... a theme contest as well ... perhaps try out two different contests in one month. Use one just for special themes... i.e. National Parks, Moutains, valleys or hills, water scapes, old gas stations or old buildings. Country side scapes, winding roads, rural areas or wooded areas (i.e. Red Woods) flowering trees or gardens too etc etc.

HI Rebel, those are some great ideas you have... I think we might try out this option in this upcoming months contests. However I do like to try out some with a "Specific Theme" and the main one kept open to any kind of photographs.

Ps. Your continued feed back is welcomed!

Take some great shots with your SSRs

dittonzssr said:
Here are a couple of Pics that we took on the first ever SSR Cruise in Palm Bay, Fl. Is this more the speed that you are wanting instead of driveway pics?
FYI: There is nothing wrong with a nice shot of your SSR in your driveway but what we were hoping to accomplish was to get you out and about and shoot some great looking shots in all different kinds of settings.

Think of when and where you could take your SSR and take those spectacular shots. I thought where could I find a spot that would show case my SSR even more than in my own driveway. So... I thought of great beaches, sunsets, hills or landscapes... and of course the great FALLS at Niagara Falls... :lol (I am waiting to see if I can get Ed /cruzned to take one with me at the falls when he comes to visit me on his trip this summer.) :thumbs

So please think of a great spot or location near you. There are some beautiful
places our members live in or near. Hawaii, California, Texas, Florida, Georgia, NJ, Michigan, Canada... the list goes on and on.

SO PLEASE PLAN ON FINDING A GREAT LOCATION FOR YOUR NEXT SHOOT OK?
