Does anyone have any tips for small "chip" touchups and/or scratch fixers???? I've been using a toothpick, but have had less than pleasing results. :cry Any ideas?? :confused Thanks

Using the Zaino clay bar on several long, deep scratches has been effective for me...have not used any touch up paint as yet as I don't have any "pits" except on the windshield (4 :mad ).

I used this technique on my '52 GMC Pickup when reassembling during my frame-off restoration (one slip and the paint chipped when reinstalling sheetmetal):

1. Fill chip with a little paint at a time over a period of a few days, until the paint is built-up proud of the finish

2. Lightly rub mound with WET 1400 grit wet sandpaper (available at any good auto parts store). Because the sandpaper is so smooth, this will require several small pieces and patience.

3. Once the touch-up is level with the paint finish, polish with very mild compound
(I used Maquires Step 2 polish with excellent results)

4. Complete with a few coats of wax

Good luck! I'm doing the nose of my ricochet silver ssr this week.

Sheldon young ... That's the way I would do it also ... don't try and fill the chip all at one time.

Touch Up Tips

OK GUYS & GALS, HERE'S THE BEST KEPT SECRET IN THE BUISNESS.........
USE A HYPODERMIC NEEDLE !!!
MY DRUGGIST LOOKED AT ME A BIT ODDLY WHEN I FIRST ASKED, BUT AFTER AN EXPLANATION, HE HELPED.
THERE ARE DIFFERENT GUAGES AND THEY ALL SEEM TO HAVE AN ANGLE ON THE END. JUST LIGHTLY TOUCH THAT TO THE GRINDER.
THE BEAUTY OF THIS IS THAT YOU SIMPLY ADD PAINT AS NECESSARY TO FILL THE NICK. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR 'NICKS'. :seeya

Paint

I tried touching up my paint but for some reason the scratches on the roof are terrible. The dealer fixed the wire loom, but he just looked at me when I said HEY what about the sides to the roof. I am afraid to get them painted though. SUX!

I will try the clay, but I haven't had much luck with it.

I also have problems with the roof linner coming undone by the back window. Any suggestions?

Thanks All!

Oh yea my windshield to tore up, even with a bra..........
