has anyone tried to tow anything with the ssr yet. I will get a light harness installed next week and try to tow the casita in a coupla weeks.

it tops out at about 2100 lbs so I think it'll be ok.

just wondering if anyone has tried yet.

When the load is within the 2500 lb limit, towing is efforless. You can hardly tell there is a trailer unless you look in the rear view mirror. Obviously, acceleration capability is reduced. I have done this on some very twisty roads and there is very little effect on the overall handling.

stop this non-sense... Why do you want to tow with such a beauty? It's like dating Ms America but keeping her in bad outfits...

No Jet Skis in the Chicago Metro Area?

I'm also going to haul my '85 Kawasaki ZL900a Eliminator - another first year release vehicle w/ a low VIN# - built in Lincoln Nebraska - to car shows in the future...

The hitch is actually one of the neat features on an SSR. There is a keyed knob that is part of the hitch bar that makes the installation of the hitch very easy. It locks in place with a key so that it is difficult to steal. Finding the trailer wires and putting on your electrical connector is the hard part.

towing

Chariot trailers ,in Tampa will manufacture an open fiberglass trailer for motorcycle's. I talked to the owner at Daytona Bike Week, last year. He will color the fiberglass to match the tow vehicle or the motorcycle. I will order my trailer Ultra Violet with a silver stripe to match my 02 Harley V-Rod. With all options and chrome wheels, less than $2000. fob Tampa.

Hitch Connector Wiring Location

Can someone point me to the exact location of the wires for the hitch. I looked and can't find them. My owner's manual says " driver's side under the rear of the car." Thanks in advance.

They are folded back and taped to the harness at the left rear corner of the frame.

Did they change this for 2005 as I don't see them
No, they are there. Often they are on top of the frame or on the inside and very well taped up. Ususally a very flat bundle so you reallly have to work to find them. Sometimes they are nearly above the axle. Try running your hand alont the top of the frame and when you find some tape see if it seems to build in thickness. That is likely to be the wires. When you find them cut carefully so you do not cut the wires. Good luck.

My friend's brother-in -law is installing a regular 2500lb hitch on his R. He is going to tow an old fixer upper home behind him. Yes. He should be shot. I'll ask how he made out.

Is there a difference between a "regular" 2500 pound hitch and a "regular" OEM 2500 pound hitch?

Seems kinda silly to replace the hitch and not have a difference somehow....

The OEM Hitch height is not adjustable, while the replacement hitch can be selected based on offset. This will level out the draw bar.

Our experience is that the stock rear suspension in our view, towing 2000lbs, is too soft especially when the tongue weight is increased.

I thought, not sure, but tongue weight not to exceed 10% of Towing weight, 2500lbs.

I would think the adjustable tow hitch would allow you to move some weight off the hitch and back onto the trailer. Thus meeting the 10% tongue weight.
