When you install the trailer hitch as I just did, do you cut loose the plastic protector that you remove before installing the hitch and let it hang loose or do you cut it loose from the thin plastic strap that affixes it to the frame. Seems to me if you left it connected it would get destroyed flapping around under the rear end. I am sure one of you has the answer.

The plug snaps into the receiver on the truck and needs to be on when the hitch is out to keep dirt out of the receiver. It can be left loose or zip tie it it to keep from flipping around. If you remove it and lose it they may be near impossible to find. Its very tough material, takes a lot to break it.
