Trany cooler

Hey howard,

Craig here, I just installed a cooler on my 03 Redline. You can go online and search "transmission coolers" and you'll get an assortment to choose from.
You can also get them with electric fan assist.
Or you can do what I did and go to Auto Zone or Pep Boys and ask for a kit. They come listed for size by gross vehicle weight.I got one oversized. It's about 12"x10" and has an-6 type flare fittings. The kit comes with mountin hardware and hoses. It attaches to the existing radiator with these neat long pins that look like wire ties accept they are round and stick right through the fins and have end caps on the other side.I opted to get my lines professionally made for about $70.00.
I cut and flared the return line which is 3/8 aluminum and secred my new lines to these with flare nuts/sleeves and connectors. It's alot of extra money but thelook and function so much better
Warning! don't do what I did, I tied into the wrong line at first. You want the return line which is the top line on the radiator.(go figure).I felt so stupid and wasted $70.00 worth of lines I couldn't reuse(too short).
Aside from that It was pretty straight forward. Good luck.

53wanab: How much reduction in temperature did you see on your transmission temperature guage (the righmost one on the auxiliary guage package)?

I am asking because as soon as I am employed again, this will be my first mod. I want to go with the largest cooler I can fit plus use stainless steel braided lines.

cooler temp

Hey Jim,

Get a job ba da da da ba da da da da! Sorry just had to.
anyway, I'm running tranny temps at about 160 with the A/C on and around 190 with the A/C off. I think this is due to the fact that the eletric fan stays on with the A/C system.
Braided lines are always cool.
Good luck with your endevors.
