Bought an 05 Smokin Asphalt a few months ago. Dream come true! Couldn't be more pleased. 2 questions:

1) Why is the bottom falling out of 04 prices? My sticker was 49k and I got it for 47k so eventhough I completely love my ssr, a little worried about the same thing happening to the 05s?

2) A few weeks ago, I noticed on e bay a rear brushed aluminum license plate cover. It covered up the back up lights to make them look like the circular tail lights. I remembered it was fairly expensive ($160?) but made the back end look pretty cool. Almost like it matched the front grill. It was pictured on a white customed painted ssr. Has anyone bought one of these or have any comments about them. Do you know who sells them? Can't find them anywhere now.. Thanks alot!

Hi there!

We just bought a new 2004 SSR, and got a really good price on it. Our dealer explained that there was an $8500. incentive from GM, as well as a few other rebates because they wanted to get rid of the 2004's to properly launch the more powerful 2005's. If you look at 2003 and 2004 resales they are not selling as cheaply as some of us paid at a dealership - I just think a few of us got lucky!!

As for the license plate frame, I just found a thread on that: http://www.ssrfanatic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2228

It looks pretty cool, might order one myself. I also think the frames for the C5 Corvette would fit, but I haven't actually measured it yet.

Congratulations on your new toy!! :)

I ordered mine direct from MBI. Took about a week to get it, but the workmanship is great. According to Gene, the person who sells them, they don't do the brushed aluminum, they will do a polished aluminum but he said I would be a lot happier with the chromed aluminum. I ordered the chrome and he was right. With the chrome exhaust tips it really looks great. I talked to him a little bit and got free shipping and he said he would include the shipping for other fanatics also.

I Also Bought The Chrome One From Mbi And It Really Is Nice Match
To The Exhaust- I Might Have Asked Them To Not Engrave The Company
Name On It If I Had Been Aware They Do That. They Also Make Some
Nice Caliper Covers. Enjoy Your New Ride

I have a 05 Silver 6-speed. Paid a lot for it. Wish I didn't, but I did. My goal was to make sure I got exactly what I wanted... and I did.

The prices don't matter unless you plan to sell. I don't! If you plan to sell, you have something to be concerned with (not that you can do anything about it), but if you don't plan to sell... just enjoy!!!!

I just bought mine this week - was told GM idled factory in January due to excessive backlog of '04's (only sold 5300 thru 12/31/04). Dealers I talked to offered $11K incentives on '04s. I'm sure GM will scale back production of 05's, making them even more of a collectors item than '04s.

Thanks folks!

Just talked with Gene at MKB. Said he is so confident that I will like it that he will gladly give me my $$ back for any reason. Super nice guy. The price for the chrome is $169 and free shipping to us members. Seems like it will go great on my Smokin Asphalt!!! Thanks again!

Value's coming back up...

I have been looking for a deal on one for myself. I have Wholesale buddie's, and told them to keep an eye out... too late. I missed the window in Dec. Prices have been climbing ever since. spring is close- convertible season! Don't dispairif you own a 03 or 04. The big motor sped up the depreciation recently- helped by dealer incentives (almost irresistable discounts!).The value of your baby should be stable from now on. I just need to continue to be patient, my new find-this site- helps alot :flag
Thanks!
Mike
