Called local service department on Monday to make appt to have:

oil change and switch to Mobil 1 - you guys and bro-in-law convinced me
outside mirror switch repair - warranty issue
check window seals yet again as they have started rolling again - warranty issue

Service department told me they could take me on Wed, Thurs, or Fri...I chose Thursday as it is a late work day for me and it would not irritate me if work took longer than expected. Took SSR in this a.m., left cell # for contact, went to work. Hadn't heard anything by 3:30, called them, service writer said would call me back after talking to tech. At 4:15 I called back, left message. At 4:30 bummed ride to dealership, talked to office clerk in service department. She called service writer who told her she tried to call me but line was busy:skep Service writer busy so I need to wait and she will come talk to me. Five minutes later, service writer calls office, tells them to give me rental. I ask what the hold up is on my vehicle, clerk calls service writer back...SSR HAD NOT BEEN SEEN AT ALL TODAY, SERVICE NOT DONE...:eek :banghead

Surprisingly, I remained very calm, customer service rep came out to talk to me...don't know what he is going to do to make this right, but...my question still remains...WHAT WAS THE POINT OF MAKING AN APPOINTMENT WHEN ULTIMATELY IT WAS FIRST COME FIRST SERVE???

I would ask for a free Mobil 1 oil change. :)
That's what I am thinking! I would try a different service department, but...this one is 6 blocks from work and they do have a great tech trained for the SSR...the next closest is 50 miles away and I would REALLY be stuck if it wasn't done!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Chevrolet Service. :cry
I hate to think that this will be normal around here for Chevy. I also own a Lincoln and that service department is 2 blocks away from work. I drop the Lincoln off before work @ 7 (no appointment) and walk to pick it up @ 2:30...it is ALWAYS done and this has happened every 5000 miles for the last 3.5 years! Go figure!

first it's not a Chevy fault it's a dealership fault, and yes sometimes these things do happen. you were treated poorly, the service writer should have kept you informed if they couldn't get to your vehicle as promised. Here at my
chevy store I'm the only one that works on any SSR and becouse of that there are times when I might have a vehicle that is a real problem and i might not be able to get to other jobs as soon as I would like, but in those cases we call the customer to let them know and if we have a loaner we will give it to them or do what ever to make the customer happy.
the dealer may have only one tech they feel can give you the service you deserve and he may have been tied up or even off that day, either way they should have kept you informed.

You are right, there is only one tech at this dealership that knows the SSR and I would prefer to wait and let him do the service...but...its not like they didn't know it was an SSR coming in...and to wait all day, only to drive a rental home:banghead ...one that doesn't half compare with my purple baby:nodno

Well you didn't hear it from me, but have you been to tijuana lately? They love rentals there. :lol

:glol :glol :glol Well...the latest update...call from service writer @ 1:00 today...still hasn't been serviced....I get off work @ 2:15, its Friday, have things to do, places to go...AND couldn't guarantee that the SSR tech has time to work on it:banghead

Question: How many hours does it take to change the oil in an SSR?

Answer: 29 and counting

Not a surprise

This isn't a surprise, and it really is ultimately Chevys problem as well as the dealers. I've had problems like this and worse, with every Chevy and every Chevy dealer I've had since I bought my first new Chevy in '86. You're lucky if you get half of the issues fixed in one trip. On my first trip to the dealer, I had an appointment, left the SSR for 3 days (since I was traveling) and still only two of the six minor issues were even addressed. :banghead Most of the service writers have privitely told me that there is a shortage of good mechanics, but I've been hearing this for years.

All said, I love my SSR! and keep going back to Chevy.

Randi,

You have just got to switch from that dealer. They really are the worst. The thing is because you are under warranty your rental should be covered. The dealership gets its money for the rental back. That also leaves them free to work on other vehicles. They think that since you have the rental you are fine and that you can wait. This dealer owns the Chrysler dealership in town. They have the same bad service. Please just go to another dealer.

Hey Bro...I believe you are wrong about ownership of these two dealers, I have checked this out in the past and my experiences w/the Dodge/Chrysler dealer wouldn't even encourage me to walk past their lot. The Chevy dealer has ultimately taken care of me, didn't charge me for rental or oil change. Warranty issues were taken care of and they have offered to bring the SSR home to me this a.m. but I am going into town, so will pick up. As long as there is an SSR tech at this dealer, I will try to work with them the best I can but will not be shunted to the back of the line over and over again. If I change service departments that means going down the hill and I just won't do it, will get rid of the SSR instead:eek

Chevy Service Departments Suck....

But, I guessed I lucked out. I met my SSR mechanic on my second visit, and now I get great service. When I call to make an appointment, I just give my name and my mechanic calls me back to discuss the problem and he sets up a time for me to come in when it is conveinent for me. He even fixed my door handle today at the dealership.. and it was his day off!!! He did this so I didn't have to take off from work or leave my truck at the shop. And when I do go in for service, they call the mechanic and he comes up to greet me and take my keys and truck right back to work on it.:) :)
I have never had to wait to have my truck serviced!!!
I think all you SSR owners should move to Maryland and go to my SSR mechanic!!!
I just love him!!!!!
Now if only GM could fix all these probelms they have with the SSR, I wouldn't have to know my mechanic so well!!!!:seeya

Where do I find an SSR Tech or SSR Mechanic?? I’ve talked to two dealers (who will remain nameless) that didn’t think it was a good idea to bring my SSR to them. :banghead :banghead I have one local dealer that I won’t step foot in for any reason....if if they had an SSR “Specialist”. I have a great mechanic who ownes his own shop, but he cannot do warranty work......:banghead :banghead

The search continues.....:smash :smash

Wingrider...you could probably make a great living just traveling around the country servicing everyone's SSR. :)

Update on my situation - arrived in town, SSR was detailed and sitting out front. No charge for rental and no charge for Mobil 1 oil change. Window seals may finally have to be changed...tech just cannot adjust window any more to solve the roll over problem. Seems the reason the mirror switch didn't work is my window tint guy unplugged it and forgot to plug it back in...that was May '05, guess I don't adjust my mirrors much:glol
