I know this is going to sound very stupid, but exactly WHERE is that trailer hitch wiring bundle that comes on our SSRs?

I bought Jim P's trailer hitch bar today (thanks, Jim!), and it installed very easily once I realized it was simple and not complicated like I had feared.

But, I crawled around under the vehicle for several minutes with a flashlight, and for the life of me cannot see anything that looks like a unterminated wiring bundle.

I looked on the left (driver) side like the prior posts on this subject suggest, but maybe I'm just too dumb to recognize it when I see it?

I have an appointment with the U-Haul place Friday afternoon to get the wiring done, and I suppose a "skilled professional" should be able to find it, but I sure feel stupid!

Look for the Black Tape

Look up there and you will see wires wrapped in black tape. You'll see it running along the frame, less than an inch thick, and then you'll see a bulge about 2 to 3 inches thick, wrapped in black tape. That is the bundle and you need to remove the tape.

on your back look up near the middle but slightly to the right. once you know to look for a taped bulge like the previous posts suggest it gets easier.

i'm not used to looking for "the bulge" but i found it quick enough :lol

Hard to Find

Jim G,

For what it's worth I found mine 16" behind the rear wheel on the drivers side
inside the black plastic tubing that the wiring harness is in. had to take off the electrical tape that was wrapped around harness and there it was! BTY my dealer wanted $215 bucks to install the connector I was going to supply!

Thanks, guys!

I am printing out this post to give to my U-Haul professional (A gal actually. That U-Haul location has ALL female mechanics and clerks, and they are GREAT! They have done really nice work for me on previous vehicles :) )

I just crawled under there again, after reading all your posts above, and I THINK I may have found it:

Although there are multiple places where black tape has been used sparingly on the harnesses, there is one point, along the frame, on the driver's side,, behind the wheel, where there is a THICK blob of black tape, about 3 inches long, almost an inch thick, out of which also come 3 or so smaller wiring shrouds off a main larger shroud. It LOOKS thick enough to include unterminated wires for a hitch connection.

I'll point it out to the gal at U-Haul and see if I am correct! :)
