There is a possibility of a tour of the GM Heritage Center for those of you invited to the Woodward event. It is still tentative at this point. Right now we would like to judge the interest.

Basically, you would get a tour of the GM Heritage Center with the Design Manager of the SSR. It would be on Thursday during the day. It is not open to the public but they can handle 8 - 10 people. This would be contingent on work not getting in the way for Glen Durmisevich, the Design Manager.

How many would be interested in attending this event?

GM Heritage Center Tour

Hi Troy,

I would be very interested in attending that tour. I am leaving tomorrow morning... late in the AM. However, if there is going to be a tour and it is held in the afternoon I will leave earlier than planned to get to Michigan on time. It is approx. a 4 1/2 hour drive through Canada and pass thru to the tunnel. (If there are no major delays) Please give full details if this becomes a reality!

I have a guest with me so please reserve 2 spots for me. I hope that we can join in on what sounds like a once in a life time chance to tour the GM Heritage Center with the Design Manager of the SSR!
:)

I believe Tom is coming up on Thursday also... SSRCobra

Wecome to Michigan!

Marc, glad to here you made it ok. I will be at the hotel tomorrow around 1:00pm, I hope. Im only 150 miles away to the west side of Michigan. The Detroit paper said this morning that they are starting to cruise already on Woodward!
I went on google last night and there's alot of information there. I typed in, 2004 gm woodward cruise. The heading that says ("GM Powered vehicles descend on 10th annual Woodward dream cruise") had alot of information. I made copyies for everyone in case they missed the story.
See everyone tomorrow, Scott 0168 :party

Cruise Control
Decade-old Woodward Dream Cruise big lure for car fans, companies
FLINT
THE FLINT JOURNAL FIRST EDITION

The Woodward Dream Cruise is 10 years old this year, and there have been some changes over the decade to the annual event - a free, rolling car show along a 16-mile stretch of Woodward Avenue in south Oakland County.

This year's cruise is Saturday, although some preliminary events begin Thursday. It runs north from Detroit to Pontiac.

As the cruise has grown over the years, the auto manufacturers have recognized the potential and their exhibits have gotten bigger. And other companies, eager to tap into that market, have joined them.

Chevrolet showed off its SSR pickup at the cruise when the SSR was just a concept, and again after the production models became available. Chrysler has introduced special-edition models just before the cruise.

The latest - a special edition of the 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser - was introduced Tuesday on Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak in advance of this weekend's cruise.

The Woodward Dream Cruise is expected to attract more than 1 million participants and spectators, and somewhere around 40,000 vehicles.

The cruise is supposed to be limited to "classic" vehicles, but the organizers have a very loose definition of what that is. It's any vehicle that "creates a feeling of nostalgia, stimulates a memory or fulfills a fantasy."

Tom Heft of Fenton said he'll probably go with his wife, Marie, their son, Jim, and some friends.

"Usually we try to get a bunch together - there's about five or six couples that go," he said.

Heft said they'll go on Friday and then return Saturday morning.

"We went last year on Friday, and there was lots to do," he said.

They usually go early on Saturday to avoid the late traffic jam, and also to get back to Flushing in time for the monthly cruise at the A&W there.

"I've been (to the Dream Cruise) six or seven times," he said. "I usually drive to the (Michigan State) Fairgrounds, and on the way back I look for a place to park and watch the cruise."

Heft is a member of the Michigan Cruisers, which organizes the A&W event. He said the Flushing cruise will still draw a good crowd Saturday, even though it is the same day as the Woodward event.

"Woodward doesn't really affect our cruise to any great extent," he said.

Heritage Center Tour

I would really enjoy this tour, however my husband can not get off work until 5 today, which is when it starts.

I however, left the office at noon today, to ready for the trip....

We should be in Warren before noon on Friday. Will check in and look for water for a wash.

We have been advised to cross at Sarnia/Port Huron, instead of Windsor/Detroit. Apparently Warren is about the middle.

See you all then Aye!

Marc just arrived

If you went from Buffalo, along to the 401 to Detroit, you were about 5 minutes from my house along the 401 in London.

You could have stopped for a coffee....

OH I would have liked to have coffee... we came through by the 401 early this morning. We decided to take 401 to the tunnel to Detroit. So would you have still wanted us to stop by and say hi? lol

Had a great time cruisen Woodward Ave. Saw where Chevy is setting up along Woodward. We went on the GM Heritage Center tour tonight. WOW!!! Loved the tour given to us by a very knowledgeable Glen Durmisevich, Design Manager. He was a terrific tour guide... learned a lot about the SSR developments/ options and new features that are coming to the SSR soon. We should get to see some of them at tomorrows media event.

We drove down Woodward after the Heritage tour and you would have thought that the cruise was in full swing. Woodward Ave was jammed packed with all kinds of vehicles!!! FOUR LANES of wild cars and wild people... burn outs, loud muffers/no muffers looked like a the circus was in town lol hmm more on that later...

I started to take photos - 89 so far and hope to post a few in a special thread soon.

See the rest of the SSR gang tomorrow. :)

Leaving times

HI Gang,

We should probably plan on leaving around 2:00 ish to head out to Athens Coney Island. Load in time is 2:30 - 3:30. Tom's trailered SSRCorba came in yesterday afternoon. We met up with him and Glenn Durmisevich around 4:15 PM at the same time. Tom's SSR looks and sounds awesome in person. :thumbs

More on that later...

See you all soon.
