I think I have a malfunctioning ignition switch on my 04. I had a "check engine" light come on. The codes are all transmission codes. A transmission mechanic told me the tranny is OK, he thinks that it is the ignition switch not sending 12 volts to the transmission. The dealer seems to be having difficulty diagnosing the problem. Does anyone know what are some of the symptions of a malfunctioning ignition switch?

Thanks,
Paul

Basically, anything that can't be explained. There are too many to list, but if you search on 'ignition switch', you'll get the idea. Seems like replacing it is a safe and fairly inexpensive first step when anything unexplainable is happening.
I think he is right. Lot's of things to check when making doing bypass your car. Replacing is the best thing to do. Actually you have a choice by purchasing a surplus or purchasing online.

ignition switch #2. First at 2900 miles, now at 10900 miles and GM doesn't cover "AGAIN"
does crazy things tranny doen't shift properly ,starts in 3 gear , gauges all over the place, locks in park, starts when it wants to. This is my 5th tow and I love the truck but PISSED that I had to pay for FAULTY SWITCH that they know is a problem.(sorry guys my FORDS never left me on the side of the road, my SSR did FIVE times.)
IS THERE A JOBBER SWITCH AVAILABLE ???? if so might be better than GM's
John

ignition switch

1BADSSR; try cleaning all the grounds. My mechanic and I did this and made a common ground from front (Jump box) to the battery in the back, connecting enginge ground, tran ground, and battery ground, not a problem since we did it. Before we grounded everything, we had gone through 4 switches in less than a a week. Had all the dash light come on window screwed up, top messed up, bed lid pop open, etc, Now nothing, Give it a try..............docrod
